Shawerma Review: Weekend

I have decided to no longer listen to my friends when it comes to shawerma places. First I got sent to Happy Duck which turned out to be a disaster and then I got sent to Weekend which also turned out to be as bad. Weekend is located opposite AUK in Salmiya and although I’ve passed by it numerous of times before, I never thought about trying it until recently when a friend recommended I give it a shot.
I ordered two chicken shawermas and a coke. After waiting for what seemed like an eternity I got the sandwiches, drove a bit further down the road parked my car and started eating. Its always best to have the shawerma while its hot and fresh but in Weekend’s, case I don’t think that really matters. The sandwich wasn’t greasy but that’s the only thing positive I have to say about it. The garlic was too liquid like and didn’t really taste like garlic although it smelled like garlic. The chicken was too moist and tasted terrible. The quantity of the chicken in the sandwich was also little although thinking about it now, that might be a good thing since the chicken was really bad anyway.
The cost of the chicken shawerma is 250fils which is normal. My advice? Drive down a further 20 meters to Malek al 3aseer (King of Juice) who make a much better shawerma. Final score 1.5 out of 5.

Most of the places serve a good meat shawarma. However, it is hard to get a chicken shawarma without some wierd taste or a pice of bone.

dude, don’t you think you should stop with the shawerma reviews by now? nearly all your reviews are low rated. review something more fancy than a 250 fils shawerma. Try out the terrace grill restaurant in Marriott.

Stafa go pick up an issue of Bazaar if you want a review of Terrace Grill.

I only go to weekend for their (msa7ab), what’s it called, boneless chicken? Yeah theirs is delicious. I’ve never ordered anything else from them.
Come to think of it, the service does take too long..

Try the advice of a stranger for a change.
Try Al Taabeei opposite Kuwait Chamber Of Commerce in Kuwait City. Drive 200 meters from Mirqab roundabout towards Kuwait Chamber Of Commerce, it will fall on your right hand side.

2 topics in a week about shawerma….!
This blog is becoming a dining review of the shi*** restaurants in kuwait…
What’s up Mark can’t you find better topics to or better restaurants to blog?
How about chocolate isn’t that better than shawermas? And please lets not talk about Mars or Twix …try gourmet chocolate
13. Ronita | August 16th, 2007 at 8:44 pm
Mathew, nothing to worry.
Its not one of those rotten and foul
South Indian eateries that you might be
delighting your Mallu taste buds in.
It is a authentic Turkish food joint.
14. Mark | August 16th, 2007 at 8:58 pm
What the hell is up with all these readers who want me to review gourmet food?!?

You can never please all the people.
Mark, you’re the first person I see who reviews normal restaurants in Kuwait. I think it’s great and it’s about time someone did it.
The last time I ate chicken shawarma (I’m a meat shawarma person) was from Altaybawi in Nuzha. It was a bit salty but very nice.
Btw, anyone know a good place that serves turkish shawarma?
24. mathew | August 16th, 2007 at 10:48 pm

25. Biohazard | August 16th, 2007 at 10:59 pm
MARKY! Did the creepy guy with the suitcase come wave to you? What does he sell, drugs, watches, perfumes, babies, clothes, what! I’ve been seeing him there for over 5 years. He still hasn’t changed..
Review him and his selling skills!
26. mocman | August 16th, 2007 at 11:54 pm
well you are famous for your shawarma reviews… shit.. even a friend of mine in dubai mentioned you and your shawarma reviews… maybe its time to move up a bit… or atleast change the food… instead of chicken go for meat… i for instance simply detest chicken shawarma… by going for just 1 food item … you really dont do justice to these places… meanin it gives a wrong impression…
27. mocman | August 16th, 2007 at 11:55 pm

u know, since ur all that into shawerma.. try Al-3areesh in Hawally, if you enter Hawally from Fahaheel road, Muhallab on your right, Qadseya Club on your left, take left on the first stoplight you see, it’s gona be there on that road to your right. They serve mini-shawermas, tasty ones. Order a dozen or so
34. simsim | August 17th, 2007 at 2:26 am

36. Mark | August 17th, 2007 at 10:53 am
I don’t order meat shawerma because I don’t like meat shawerma. The only places I eat meat shawerma at are Farah and Kuwaitana, but their meat shawerma is a different style, its closer to the Barakat shawerma.
37. Ali Bonga | August 17th, 2007 at 12:14 pm
The best place is to eat at Malek el Farooj it is at the end of Share3 el ma6a3em… Their Shawirma is a bit pricey but the chicken shawarma tasts excellent. Malek el Farooj.
