Skate Park

While driving to Maki yesterday at Marina Waves I noticed the Skate Park at the side of the parking lot was open. I had passed it a few times before but the lights were always off but yesterday they were open and some kids were riding their BMX bikes up and down the ramps. On the way out I got a better look (while still driving by in the car) and I noticed the two kids had similar blue helmets and bikes. This is why I am guessing that the park actually rents out bikes, boards, blades and gear. I should probably pass by another day and try to get more details unless a reader already has more details and can share it with us. It looks wayyyy better then the one that used to be located in the basement of the Salmiya palace Hotel.

There are some pictures at the link above. This skate park appeared early in the Summer and was unfenced. Now it’s fenced and there is a small charge. Maybe the fence is for security and safety, or maybe they just want to make a buck. Anyway, it’s there, which must be a good thing. One comment I heard from a skater though, it seems to be more designed for bikes than boards, as there is a bit of a lip/step where the ramps meet the ground.
Another good thing is the climbing tower at the Waves. Again it was free for a trial period, now there is a small charge. An instructor will show you the ropes - literally.

Is the one in the palace hotel still open? Can anyone just turn up and pay?
Some pics of climbing in Marina also now on flickr. Sea-kayaking also available there, but the killer smell might put you off! Someone has to sort out whatever they are putting in the sea around there!
