Soccer Celebrations
Two nights ago when Egypt won the African Cup in soccer, large convoys were driving around celebrating by honking and cheering. They were really annoying and kept going at it for 30 minutes around my area before they left somewhere else. If this happened at say 6PM I wouldn’t have had a problem (maybe) but they were honking like crazy at 11PM! So awhile ago I found out that the cops arrested a lot of Egyptians on the Gulf Road that night because while the whole country was mourning the passing of the late Amir they were driving around celebrating a soccer game. I am glad the cops arrested them, I was tempted to call the cops on them myself because they were causing such a disturbance but I didn’t know what number to call (777?) and I didn’t know what to say (people are honking please help me). Anyone else hear them?

Become a Kuwaiti, go downstairs, and tell them to stfu. Problem solved.

I know one thing if we Kuwaitis or any another nationality did the same in Cairo. We’d probably get arrested on the claim “rioting against Husni Mubarak” and then we’d end up like Adel Imam in the movie “E7na Btoo3 El Autobis” !!
Tawateeto, at least be happy at home our Amir passed away and the country is still mourning him, no need to be stupid show offs. And stop being sensitive about it…your Egyptian so what, wanna celebrate go fix the sphinx nose or something.

you hate Egyptians. I know too many annoying Lebanese but I still don’t hate them. Give it a rest!
13. Mark | February 12th, 2006 at 11:17 pm
Tarek I don’t know where you got the idea I hate Egyptians. Just because I was annoyed by some Egyptians honking in the middle of the night non stop doesn’t mean I hate all Egyptians.

looks like warlock took it too personally, im sorry, i didnt mean to be disrespectful, i know about the mourning, my comment was a joke anyway. and one more thing, you can do whatever you want in egypt and no one would tell yo u anything.. :p

I’m Egyptian and I found it doubly offensive that we were supposed to ‘celebrate’ considering the ferry disaster. It’s really odd how quickly we forgot about the 1000 people who lost their lives because of it. Of course, my fellow countrymen called me a whiner and a manic depressive when I mentioned this. As for the late Emir’s death, on the 4th day of mourning, there were fireworks in Qurtoba. There will always be an insensitive lot. I think in the case of the African Cup, it’s doubly offensive.

hmmm.. so there are people dying everywhere all the time.. why do we even bother to celebrate anything?! flame away!
19. Nothingologist | February 13th, 2006 at 9:50 am
WTF? Actually, I won’t flame you. I think it’s a brilliant idea. I thought life sucked anyway.

Its not all about any Nationality. Those guys did some nonsense, and apparently they happened to be Egyptians. Its not a good, no matter who does these kinda untimely celebrations! Its very important to respect and admire a country’s local tradition and culture especially when you are making a living with it.
21. WTF? | February 13th, 2006 at 12:08 pm
local tradition and culture.. does that mean I now have to go chasing girls with my car in the hopes of giving them my mobile number… sorry couldnt help it… i’m in a wicked mood! :-)
22. Fatality | February 13th, 2006 at 3:14 pm
You think Kuwaitis are all about flirting and such bullshit ? You are either playing stupid or you don’t know any decent Kuwaiti folk.
23. WTF? | February 13th, 2006 at 4:26 pm

It was annoying but i got stuck in the middle of it on my way home from watching the match…and i couldnt help it i was smiling like an idiot and started beeping with them, it was kinda contagious plus i had a carful of egyptians…thing is, what was weird is that there were SOOOOO many kuwaitis and saudis who stopped their cars and were dancing in the street and beeping and cheering as well…i would say almost half the ppl out there were kuwaitis and gulf nationals (some bahrainis and qataris)..
i guess ppl just wanted any excuse to go crazy…it was fun though…
oh and what someone else said about doing anything u like in egypt and getting away with it, its true…if they do arrest ppl its usually egyptians cause as we all know, they are expendable!

we don’t have a reason to have fun and go crazy everyday, so shut up and have fun whenever you can, a man who talks like you should be 70 years old or something,
11pm is too late for you!!!!
