SOOR Petrol Stations

I noticed today that the Kuwait National Petroleum Co. (KNPC) office in Kuwait City got re-branded to SOOR Fuel Marketing Company. So I guess this means their gas stations will also soon be re-branded to SOOR. Personally, I don’t like their new identity but at least they have a logo unlike their competitor Oula. [Link]

I dont care how they brand it as long as we get 711 type of mini marts like the rest of the Gulf states.

I really dont understand why gas stations here don’t have mini marts. These 24 hour joints are good for competition and offer a great any hour alternative to the co-ops.

The question is, what is the difference between these two?
i still don’t get it why do we have Oula and SOOR ? they are just marketing something somethin` which we must have .. its a must

KNPC’s ‘attempt’ at privitisation gave two companies a chance to try to excel at providing new brand/services. The first was Oula – such an imaginative name for a first private petrol company meaning: First! The second was Soor. KNPC still owns and operates a third of Kuwait’s petrol stations.

Mark, Soor rent the old KNPC building and hence the slight confusion. KNPC’s new head office is in Ahmadi.

The problem (challenge) the two companies have is the price limitation. They have to charge KNPC prices (thank god) and this means they have to differentiate themselves using other services – shops, ATMs, oil change, FastFood etc. They have both had problems with licensing and extending the service to include non-petrol items.

I saw one example of the new and improved station in Mishref (near ACK) but I’m not sure which one it was. It’s a green brand and the petrol station looked like the normal European standard with a canopy ++

Anything would be an improvement to what we have today.

Soor is the name of the company… the stations will be branded with another name, which is actually quite cool but I can’t tell you here

Not sure when they’re launching it though…

This is a gas station in the Emirates: http://image60.webshots.com/160/3/92/30/2382392300058592171VBJDUJ_fs.jpg

The above is what a gas station should look like: fast track section, supermarket etc – Al-Oula and Soor, take note.

Kuwait has stations like this in Europe (i.e. Q8) – why cant we have them here?

You want a C-Store ? Vote for better candidates. Not even one candidate so far has the right vision. Baladiya needs to be shut down.

That building is still KNPC property, Al-Sour have been renting it for a couple of years now and paying us rent twice a year… They have already purchased 40 gas stations almost 4 years ago (few months after Al-Oula purchased their 40 Gas stations).
