its gonna really suck if they win this cos they need to be taught a lesson. They borrow tons of money then go lose it in the stock market. its ridiculous. right now, they r hoping another saddam would invade the country so that all debts are cancelled.

Mark … keeping posting the same issue about dropping debts, is really making your web site boring, please try to find something interesting.

  4. 4. NaMmOoR | December 18th, 2006 at 12:15 pm

People in Kuwait should really think before they take loans and put more depts on them selves and waiting for a thread of a petittion to drop there debts.

they are always taking loans and showing off with the money they didnt earn…

i wish it never get approved

Cancelling the debts teaches everyone that it’s right not to take personal reponsbility for your own decisions regarding risk. I realise that’s the culture here now, and any action like this will just perpetuate the problem.

I think they should go back to work!

  7. 7. Rejoy | December 18th, 2006 at 1:36 pm

They will charge the expats for everything
even after paying the 50KD medical insurance per year nothing is free in hospital
per visit 2 kd, ultrasound 10kd, room 10kd etc,
the fact that majority of expat workforce is young and fit, only a small minority goes to hospitals.
This 50kd insurance is not justifiable, i am sure it goes towards the expence of treating non-expats.
Similarly if they drop the debts, i fear they will start imposing taxes on expats. making life in Kuwait more tight.
Anyway its their country, let them do what seems to be good for them. None of our business.

  15. 15. loo7a | December 18th, 2006 at 5:21 pm

Rejoy, expats, if you dont like it here, by all means leave please..

stop complaning, kuwait is not a home for you , its for KUWAITIES ONLY

  16. 16. Mark | December 18th, 2006 at 5:22 pm

loo7a Kuwait is a home to many expats including me. Its not for Kuwaitis only.

  17. 17. Boss | December 18th, 2006 at 5:36 pm

I’d just like to point out the irony of protests asking that debts be dropped alongside a proliferation of billboards advertising NBK’s new “Yabeela… Aston Martin” campaign. Ah, the beauty of conspicuous consumption in a rentier economy…

  18. 18. Boss | December 18th, 2006 at 5:38 pm

And loo7a: let’s kick out all of the expats from Kuwait and make a true home for all Kuwaitis. That way, we can pick up our own trash and sell our own products to… umm… ourselves. Oooh, THEN we can ban all foreign investment from our country - because who needs money that’s not Kuwaiti money, right? After all, it’s a home for Kuwaitis and not for anyone else.

  19. 19. BlueSand | December 18th, 2006 at 5:42 pm

Mark, the high school kids from last time were demonstrating for something else (something to do with thanaweya 3ama).
And I add my voice to those who are against dropping depts.

  20. 20. Adam | December 18th, 2006 at 6:21 pm

Loo7a - your ignorance is astounding!

  24. 24. TweeZ | December 18th, 2006 at 11:22 pm

Loo7a, that is not very Kuwaiti of you to say that. Remember, its FREE KUWAIT!….get it? no?…anyone?!

  25. 25. jane | December 19th, 2006 at 4:23 am

these people are freezing there nuts off standing in that weather for NOTHING

  26. 26. ahlein | December 19th, 2006 at 7:40 am

so ironic that the only time lazy mofo’s like those get up early and leave their house to stand in the cold is to ask for debt cancellation. If the average lazy local had the same motivation towards work, kuwait would be a dynamo if activity instead of lacking behind the rest of the Gulf. If only the average local had half the involvement and morals of the online crowd….

  27. 27. holla | December 19th, 2006 at 6:30 pm

only in kuwait would a stupid request like this be considered seriously and actually debated.

this is even more laughable than the US reparations issue.

  28. 28. x|fader | December 20th, 2006 at 9:46 am

its funny .. in Canada we rally to “freeze university tuition fees” just to freeze it not even trying to ask them to reduce the fees, in Kuwait, its not freeze nor reduce .. its cancel !
