The Butcher Shop & Grill opening tomorrow

The Butcher Shop & Grill are opening tomorrow at phase II in The Avenues. They’re located right at the start of the food court, opposite Starbucks. The picture above isn’t of the actual place although it does look very similar.

Been closely watching the place as they were successful in the UAE. Another South African concept to invade Kuwait, after NINOs and Nando’s. This one is very promising and I like the classic decor, mixture of English and South African ‘Safari’ touch. If only their Front of the House Managers are as friendly as Nando’s then I think they are up to a good start….or maybe HE was naturally discriminating which is bad. South Africa has forgotten the apartheid regime has it not? Oh, maybe not about black and white because I am every inch an Asian and am sure he is Middle Eastern. Tsk.Tsk.

I tried out the butcher shop a few hours ago.
First impressions were about the location – i wish the seating area were a little more secluded. a higher handrail with some kind of patterned mashrabiya would do the trick.
and the food: along with bread, butter and oil/balsamic, we were given some sausages in spiced tomato sauce. i would recommend them – their texture is that of freshly made sausages with proper meat filling. we then got to sample some of the dried beef, which was nice, smokey and flavourful.
the mushroom and blue cheese appetizer was nice. the caesar salad was fine.
i would say the rest of the meal was just ok. not offensive, but i felt the meat lacked the good natural taste of other steaks i’ve had in kuwait. when i saw the meat in the butcher display, it looked like the beef wasn’t as aged as it could have been. i ordered my steak with black pepper, a friend of mine got his with the pepper and bbq sauce – it infused more flavour into the steak, in this case a better choice. the mashed potatoes were ok. i do not recommend the creamed spinach however, it was made with frozen spinach.
