The My Puppy Store

I posted about the “My Puppy” store back in November and I talked about how the store was animal cruel locking the dogs and cats up in tiny stinky cages with very little room to move. Well TwaiF a regular reader of the blog had an experience with the place he she would like to share with everyone:
Last week I got a cute white kitten for my freinds birthday from the “My Puppy” shop. The shop smells like shit and there was no electricity or air conditioning. I saw this little cute kitten in a dirty cage and I couldn’t leave her there in that stinky shop so I took her with me for KD70. Guess what? Today she passed away!! She hadn’t been eating and when we took her to the vet the Dr said that she was too small to be taken away from her mother. She was 2 months old according to the My Puppy shop keeper although we now think she was a lot smaller. I called the guy who owns “My Puppy” and told him what had happened and he replied telling me that it was my fault becouse of the weather she passed away! I hope Mark you write about this stupid shop and how dirty it is and how cruel the owner is to the animals. -TwaiF
I think local organizations like PAWS or local vets should do something about this place. Its sickening.
Update: extinct.dodo another reader had a similar experience which makes you wonder how many people have purchased puppies and kittens from that store only to have them die on them??
I bought a puppy from that place last year for KD250, and it died less than 2 weeks later..
What I did was that I took my pup to the vet, got papers to prove that the dog was terminally ill (distemper) and went back to the shop. Although they wouldn’t give me my money back, they did however get me another dog, although by that time I was emotionally devastated over my sweet baby pup that I’d gotten so attached to in the days that it had been with me.
Update 2: I emailed PAWS today morning about the above and this is what they just replied:
Hi Mark, I don’t know if you’ve seen today’s press coverage (Arab Times and Daily Star) on WSPA’s visit to Kuwait. Coincidentally the reps from World Society for the Protection of Animals visited My Puppy just yesterday with officials from PAAF and our PAWS Chairperson. Though meeting no international humane pet shop regulations whatsoever, they did not actually witness the worst of what WE (PAWS and you) know goes on at this place.
Please be assured that WSPA and PAWS are working with the ministry of animal health to enforce current legislation and bring in new laws regarding pet shop regulations and standards. Sadly, these won’t happen overnight. We will report your findings to both WSPA and PAAF and ask them to send regular inspection teams.
Please keep the reports coming in….they are very useful and will be acted upon in due course if not immediately.
We also took the WSPA officials to Little Jungle…..words fail me, but please, please use the power of your blog to report on the horrendous conditions which exist at this so called ‘fun family’ spot…..It’s off the 207 from the Fahaheel Express way and if you haven’t visited….do so, at least once…it might make My Puppy look like an ok sort of place,
Best regards, and use that Blog to keep animal welfare issues front and centre, PLEASE!
Barbara
for PAWS
Seems like I need to pass by Little Jungle and check out how bad it is. If its worse then My Puppy then thats some scary stuff…

fucking hell. is there anyway to shut this place down? i think if somebody demands their money back for even one pet, they might just be so broke that they are forced to shut down.
3. extinct.dodo | April 27th, 2006 at 9:57 am
lol holla i doubt it.. they train their local german shepards and sell them for sky-high prices that reach over 1000 kd, and with the popular ever increasing demand for trained guard dogs amongst the young male community, i sincerely doubt they’d go out of business
lol, you really thought a kuwaity-run business like that would depends solely on cat and toy-dog sales? there has to be some sort of dirty business involved or else they wouldnt have started the business to begin with

it cant be shutdown, if its brought to the attention of the right people.
But you have to get the Vet Hospital and PAWS involved in it. Talk to the people of PAWS and see what they can do! Its horrible what they are doing to the animals! And how come there is no air condition! Its going to get scorching hot soon!

Is this pet shop located at the Bird Market, in Al Rai, near the Friday Market? I go there to buy fish for my aquarium. I’ve seen Cats locked up in tiny cages and kept in the walkway outside the shops, though I know that the shops are airconditioned.
Very sad that you lost that kitten. PAWS should flex some muscles.

I bought a cat from My Puppy almost a year ago and she’s still alive. I think the owners of the store are understanding and care for their animals. Even though I dont think the shop is that bad, how else do you want a pet shop to smell like?
And how do we know that the owner of the pet is not doing a great job in taking care of it? I dont think it is fair to shift the blame on the shop ONLY!
Btw, animals die…it’s a fact of life!

TweeZ you must be talking about a different pet shop because the one I am talking about is a hell hole.
You see the picture above? You see the white dog, you know his cage is soo small he can’t stand up.
You see the cage right next to him, there are 2 dogs in that tiny cage.
They don’t care for their animals and just because you bought a cat from there and its still alive it proves nothing.
The owner of the store is just making money out of selling animals, he doesn’t care about their living condition. There is no one to blame here except the owner.
Animals do die its a fact of life but when you remove an animal from its mother before it can survive alone thats not life, thats cruelty.
From your message it seems you are related to the store owner.

TweeZ your lucky that your cat is alive , we know that the owner is not taking care of the pets becouse of what he did ! a small little poor kitten needs her mother , she doesnt know how to eat she needs her mother milk , and guess what the owner told me to give her chicken! and not to give her milk and i did so but she eats nothing!! comeone the dr told us that she has a fever , she needs her mother , we feed her by (drip) .. we know its a fact of life but we have the reasons to blame the owner

yeah it is pretty clear that it’s the shop owner’s fault. these are living things not object you can just stack up in the corner and ignore.
why do these primitive cunts even bother opening up a pet store anyway? can’t they sell falafel or open up some other worthless business?

Give the fuckin owner a taste of his own medicine! Stick his ass in a cage!

Mark, Im in no way related to the owner of My Puppy. Nibaq can confirm that for you if you want.
Hey, I’m just telling the truth here. I bought my cat, Chloe, about a year ago. Im just sharing my experiance that I had with My Puppy and the fact that the owner and his wife seemed like nice people and helped my out.
I dont think it’s fair for you to make these allegations about me being related to the owner of My Puppy just because I wrote something that you did not want to read.
In no way am I taking a stand against or for this store. I’m just sharing my thoughts about my visit to that store and my positive interaction with the owners.
oh and american, give your president a taste of his own medicine. Stick the Bill of Rights up his ass!

if a local can’t take care of simple things like animals (i’m referring to the owners of the shop, assuming their locals), wouldn’t it be great to do what they do with kids they can’t look after either - leave it to expats who would be more than happy to take care of a grateful puppy or kitten instead of a spoilt brat of a kid!! at least then if they get sh*t on, it’s from a dumb animal (…who said “what’s the difference”?)

Little Jungle is still open. When I took my 1 year old son there (thank goodness he won’t remember what it was like) I saw a chimpanzee alone in a cage about 3 metres square, a monkey chained to a post by a 2 foot chain that was wearing away the skin around his waist (thankfully, a friend of mine rescued him), a giraffe in an area way too small and small fluffy dogs being pushed around in prams. Unfortunately most of the Philippino staff seemed to think that the animals were being treated well, so it isn’t just some unscrupulous Kuwaiti trying to make money. Little Jungle is a complete disgrace and the owners and staff should be ashamed of themselves. I wish that someone would paint over the sign they have on the pedestrian bridge on the 30. Anyone fancy a midnight recce with a can and paint brush?
