The Phone Doctor

I got my Nokia E61i last July so its been with me for nearly 10 months and through this time its been really abused. Whats surprised me the most is how well its held up. It must be the metal casing because I’ve dropped it soo many times, had it slammed into the wall and really not much has happened. Now I did manage to crack the screen slightly when I accidentally dropped the phone from nearly two stories high but thats really superficial compared to the damage that would have inflicted lets say an iPhone.
Yesterday I managed to inflict more damage to the phone after dropping it for like the millionth time. Basically the phone stopped charging when plugged in. The new version of the phone isn’t going to be out for a few months and I didn’t want to get another phone so I decided to pass by the doctor in Khalid Bin Waleed street in Sharq to see if he could fix my phone.
The doctor is a popular guy in Sharq who is an expert in repairing phones. He has a small shop in the same building as the store “My Phone” except his store is in the back side. I showed him my phone and told him what was wrong an he quickly opened it up, checked the phone’s board and found the culprit. A tiny resistor was missing and he could replace it for just KD4 (probably cheaper if I haggled). I told him to go ahead and it took him just another 5 minutes to unsolder a resistor from another broken Nokia phone and then solder it onto my phone and voilĂ , my phone started charging again.

It’s like a drive through phone repair shop. Since the guy is very nice and a real pro I figured I would help send business his way. So if you need to repair a phone, just pass by the doctor, the store is called Life Style (don’t ask) and his phone number is 4455692.

Seriously if you have a warranty and u take it to a workshop theyll take it for three weeks, and then call you and tell you they need to buy spare parts, then 2 weeks later theyll give you your phone back.

I have used this guy a while back for my iMate when it just died on me.. he is pretty good…

Its ironic you posted this .. my e61i stopped charging a few days ago, the connection is a bit loose.

I assume your phone had 1 year warranty,
so why not try the dealer!

I’m using the E61, Its tougher than the E61i. I’ve slammed mine onto a wall three times and dropped it a dozen of times. Still working perfectly after two and a half years.
The funny thing about slamming it to the wall was the phone call didn’t disconnect and the person was still on the line! I had to hang up my self :/

Mine is acting up, seems like its the e61i season, mine has the flu… it doesn’t open the options menu and its reallllly slow. I know its a software thing, but everyone’s telling that i have to take it to the “Nokia” dealer because they’re the only ones that are capable of fixing it when its a software issue… I’d search online but I really, and I know its possible to change the firmware on my own, i’ve done it with other phones but i dunno why i don’t wanna go down that road with this phone, I really like it… I’m ganna try this guy, we’ll see where it goes from there.

spooner, you can do it yourself, i flashed my firmware with the newer european version and it was a pretty simple process

You lose your phone for a week, the memory gets wiped out and the issue is never really fixed (they do a ghetto job repairing a broken part). They only really attempt to fix it once the warranty runs out and your forced to pay for parts which end up costing more than a new phone.

Well Mark, here’s what happened to my E61i, after the “storm” my navigation key has been hard to use and the red button was impossible to use, i went to Sharq, a guy told me it just need to be cleaned, and i should come after 2 hours, when i came back, i slightly felt a difference, but i wasn’t satisfied, i took it to FCC, they told me i’d take 2 days, after 4 days i called them and they were like it’s with the driver, go to your branch and collect it.
Went to my branch, only to find a new phone, memory wiped, over 700 numbers are completely gone (when i called them and asked why didn’t you take my permission to change the phone, it was working but it was hard to use, the only answer i got “you can’t get your phone back, we shipped it to mother Nokia”, anyway, plus i got a new warranty but in my old cover with the same keypad, i told them i want to change the keypad. they took it for couple of days, texted me back, only to find it in the same shape and they told me they ran out of keypads.
I went to cellucom and ordered the black cover, with the black keypads, cost me 25 kd, and i’ll have it by next Monday.

I slammed my w880i on the wall and it kinda died ;/ i took it to the dealer and they had it for 2 weeks ! Ygolon theyre waiting for a board to arrive cuz mine is not working anymore…today i just had enough and i was in full action mode to get my phone back….they told me khalas we’re going to give u a new phone instead cuz the board hasnt arrived yet. I didnt even have to raise my voice. Hmmmm.
I dont know if its a good thing…..cuz i was actually in the market for a new phone…oh well…its a good phone so i might as well stick to it.
I bet if i had taken it to that guy he would have fixed it.

No one is as bad as me when it comes to slamming the phone :p I slammed my e61i gazillion times and it always comes in handy as an anger management tool (I keep on squeezing it), and for some reason I always seem to end up dropping every phone that I buy into the toilet : s ( mind you that it is unused toilet :p)
