Wataniya ad Rip-off!

Mio Ad

I love hating Wataniya. Have you watched the Wataniya TV commercial where there is a guy walking on a red carpet that keeps rolling open in front of him? Well Kuwaitism found an ad from Taiwan by a company called Mio with the exact same concept. Check it out. [WMV 2.3MB] (right click and save as)

Update:
Just uploaded a much higher quality video.

Update 2:
Ok, sadly it seems Mio might have copied the ad from Wataniya. I just did a bit of research and I found out the Mio A700 which is the phone advertised in this commercial was released last month but was first announced in October. Wataniya on the other hand released their ad in October, but they must have worked on it atleast a month before. This means that Mio copied the ad from Wataniya.. and managed to do a better production job.

Update 3: Here is the video of the Wataniya TV ad. [WMV 1.14MB]

That wataniya ad (both the long and short versions) is fuckin amazing. Everyone I know loves it. It was basically one of the highlites of Ramadan last year.. Even if they had copied the concept from Taiwan, I don’t care. It’s superb and the concept realized perfectly Gulfstyle anyway. .

    great post btw

there’s a history of great ads that people loved that are far worse in terms of production than this great wataniya ad

There’s been an ad like this in Hungary for ages. But it’s for a Bank. The guy walkes to all the way to his the bank on a red carpet that rolls by itself (there’s no people rolling it)

No ideal is original, there is nothing new under the sun. It’s never what you do but how its done.

Wataniya ad good?? I suppose if they were in the carpet business, then they may have a case for an effective ad campaign. Go to Watania, the red carpet company, buy a persian rug and you’ll get a mobile phone for free..

The Wataniya Ad reflects a society of slavery, where expats are merely here in Kuwait to slave for the Kuwaitis every wish. Whether you wanna argue my point of view or not I don’t give a flying fuck!!! As the above remains the FACT

Hellraiser wrote one of the funniest comments i read in a while. . LOL

I don’t think that Ad Agencies in Kuwait are good. They LACK CREATIVITY. I have met many Ad agencies’ owners and they seem they don’t know jack shit about the industry of advertising.

firstly u need to ignore ad agencies owners, they usually dont know anything thats why they hire creatives.

but the thing is i used to blame agencies in kuwait and i still do most of the time but from my experience i have learned that the client is usually the one at fault.
