Weekend Demolished

Weekend

The shawerma place called Weekend that is located in front of AUK in Salmiya got demolished. Supposedly the owner of the building demolished it so that he could drive off the owners of the shop. You can read more about it on the Al Rai Alaam newspaper but its in Arabic. I wasn’t a fan of Weekend, I prefered Malek Al 3aseer which was right next to it but it still sucks. They are doing the same with the shops in old Salmiya. For example Family Bookshop is still open but you can barely get to it. The entrances are blocked by rocks and sand because the owner of the building is trying to drive them out. [Link]

I bet the owner gave him several notices but these shop owners will always ignore them …I 2nd Mr. Pedro’s comment :) people are crying to develop the country well this is a small price we have to pay in order to do it .

Ohh.. you broke my heart with this picture!

Not just because I love Weekend, but because we are loosing our old memories to be replaced by more tall buildings and big shopping centres.

I know, life goes on and we can’t stop the wheel of development, but what is happening now in Kuwait reminds me of what happened in the 60’s and late 50’s when all of the old “real” Kuwait was demolished to be replaced by the “modern” one. And we know how sorry we are now for doing that!

i agree with all of you first these places cant stop our development. This is just one cheap resturant its not that important and nothing happened in the 60’s new business came in. Al matahen the bread you now eat daily came in that era without development we will be stuck and we are still the same kuwait’s from 1699…..so dont worry if the morals are still available trust me where fine……btw democracy came in the 60’s without that we would have been lost………

the owner of the restaurant is about to sue the owner of the building…

which i hope that the restaurant owner get his rights… but i don’t think so because i think that the building owner is going to use wasta !!

It sucks that we are losing so much of Salmiya! I loved Weekend’s turkey & cheese sandwiches. Bummer man.
