Ah Ya Lasmar Ya Zain 35 Years Later
The video above is of the new Zain commercial, while the one below is the original from 1973. Same song, same singer. Its cool seeing the same thing but 35 years apart. Big difference of course is that the singer (Abdul Karim Abdul Kader) is much older, but I also noticed how the girls skirt is now much longer and Abdul Kader is no longer sitting next to her but standing a couple of meters away. Imagine a remake of Bye Bye London today, the whole play would probably take place at a Starbucks.

First of all, I loved the ad.. it’s smart and catchy :)
I liked your note about the skirt and the closeness to the model. Although It would’ve been lame to see Abdulkareem sitting so close to a girl who could be his granddaughter!

If they were smart, they should have brought the same people in the old video,,,,,would be nicer advertisement. Loosing the culture really ruined the whole thing.
Thank you Mark for brining back some of Kuwait memories.

I quote Zain : ” All your base Money are belong to us !”
Wi-fi : nice one lol

Politics is powerful, it changed and shaped life in Kuwait from what it was 35 years ago, politicians have great power, but politics is still inferior to the ultimate power, money. Money can bend and control politicians and politics to suit it’s liking.
I like the fact that the ad took something from Kuwait’s past and made use of it for today, it’s wonderful.

24. E | December 14th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
the model in the original song,,, is that haifaa adel!?
25. Kataku | December 14th, 2008 at 2:20 pm
Another crappy ad from Zain, because:
1- It is pathetic for implying they’re the national Kuwaiti company by using a classic Kuwaiti song (not qatari or saudi). This however is not true anymore.
2- They butchered a classic and sold it out for money (Abdul kareem 6e7t min 3aini).
The score is VIVA 2 – Zain 0

27. miss ghesquiere | December 14th, 2008 at 4:34 pm
chill out losers. its happy and fun. but i would have preffered the shorter skirt.
28. Anonymous | December 14th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
Yes, the model in the original song is Haifa Adel. I would have appreciated it if he was sitting next to her just like the original.

I LOVE THERE NEW ADDS!! :D
GOOOO ZAIN!! VIVA SUCKS!! they really do suck. and ppl think their prices are lower put its completly the opposite!! :@ I HATE VIVA!
31. joud | December 14th, 2008 at 9:48 pm
i dont understand why ppl get so sensitive and look for the cracks
take it for what it is, a relatable, witty play on a 40 year old song. it’s just an old song, not the constitution
32. Q8i free thinker | December 15th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
Wow wallah nice ad, gr8 work Saatchi for bringing back the old memories!
33. Mark | December 15th, 2008 at 3:43 pm
It’s JWT not Saatchi
