Johnny Cash is Cool

I know who Johnny Cash is, I mean I had heard of him and I think I know how he looks like. What I didn’t know was that one of my favorite Nine Inch Nails songs was originally played by Johnny Cash. The song I am talking about is called “Hurt” and I just heard Johnny Cash’s version and its pretty cool. So I just spent a full $1.80 and downloaded the The Legend Of Johnny Cash album from AllOfMp3.com. Check out the two different version below. They are not the full songs just a preview, the Nine Inch Nails one kicks in late in the song which you can’t hear in the preview below but I found the live version which is more active the first minute then the regular one.

Update:
Ok it turns out Johnny Cash took the song off Nine Inch Nails, not the other way around! Wiki has more info. [Link]

on K.thekuwaiti, he got an icon on right side, just below the blog roll heading. I have seen several blog sites with similar icons. IS there a website I can make these icons? are those custom made?

From what I know, there are a lot of songs based of his old songs. Even some rap songs if i am not mistaken. He made some pretty good music.

No dude, Hurt is a NIN song that was covered by Johnny Cash in 2003, not the other way around. In his final years Cash made quite a few albums with Rick Rubin which contained lots of covers including Depeche Mode’s Personal Jesus and Sound Garden’s Rusty Cage.

Yeah, they are called the American series, him doing covers or famous and not so famous bands. It really shows his talent in really taking a song and making it his.

You need to see the Johnny Cash – Hurt video. Trent Reznor and Zach De LaRocha both like got emtoional when they saw the first screening of it.

    Reznor’s reaction

In an interview with Alternative Press, Reznor admitted that when Rubin first asked if Cash could cover his song, he was “flattered” but worried that “the idea sounded a bit gimmicky.” The power of Cash’s song didn’t fully hit Reznor until he saw the video:

I pop the video in, and wow… Tears welling, silence, goose-bumps… Wow. I just lost my girlfriend, because that song isn’t mine anymore. … It really made me think about how powerful music is as a medium and art form. I wrote some words and music in my bedroom as a way of staying sane, about a bleak and desperate place I was in, totally isolated and alone. [Somehow] that winds up reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning—different, but every bit as pure. [1]

Reznor still occasionally refers to “Hurt” as “a song that isn’t mine anymore.”

The video still gives me goosebumps whenever i watch it..
The video also has his wife June who passed away a few months before him..

    “I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
    I focus on the pain
    the only thing that’s real
    the needle tears a hole
    the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
    but I remember everything”
