Bye bye Iraqi Airways. Should be interesting to see if this means Kuwait won’t get anything from Iraq. [Article]

if this does get accepted, then this will set a very bad precedent to similar cases.

    1.2 billion = 1200 millions!

Why should we forget, this is our money and our right to ask for it as we please. Just cause we’re a small country doesn’t mean we should stay silent. DOW Chemical the worlds largest chemical company is sewing KPC for 4 BILLION dollars over ALLEGED breach of contract should Kuwait airways ignore the devastation Iraq caused to the airways during the occupation????

  7. Alawi says:

Btw don’t forget the lawyers that represent Kuwait airways they want some of that money! The british firm that is representing Kuwait airways said they will not back down and defend the rights of Kuwait airways.

    @s.
20 years is not enough to fend off 1.2 billion.

  10. TweeZ says:

    @S

If anyone thinks this money will not be divided between the British law firm, the various intermediaries and other greedy people with sticky fingers, they are being naive. I say let Iraq Airways keep it and perhaps there will be a chance of a decent airline in the region. The small minded vindictiveness needs to stop. Move on.

  13. Zay says:

Kuwait Airways has every right to demand and get their money back, there’s nothing such as “Get over 1.2 billion USD”. That’s easy to say when the matter doesn’t directly involve one.
I don’t think they won’t get anything from Iraqi airways, but that, only time will tell.

Obviously SOME of the money will go to the British law firm, Kuwait Airways’ legal advisors and intermediaries. We’re talking about a 15+ years of hard work and a (possible) “prize” of 1.2 b $ that results from THEIR ongoing work, it is only fair for them to get some sort of commission I guess (if that is to happen).
Anyways this is/will be Kuwait Airways’ money and they are free to do as they please; wether Kuwait Airways is corrupted or not, that’s another issue. Let us not commingle everything!

  14. CrazY-KiLLeR says:

They wanna dissolve the company, but have forgotten one think, IF there’s still cash in that banged out company, then the assets will be transferred to the Ministry of Finance, in this case Kuwait Airways can file a law suit on them.

But lets say that it has no assets then the case will take a long long time to resolve.

Anyways in both cases if the money doesn’t return then take a moment and think about those thieves that ruined Kuwait Airways in the first place before the invasion, and believe me so they were blooded Kuwaitis.

Do you want that money to end up in their hands and feed their family with money that didn’t belong to them in the first place.

    I sure don’t !

If I owe the bank a couple of hundred thousand and neglected to pay then I decide to change my name…would that stop me from being prosecuted?

Silly attempt by a silly state at avoiding debt owed to Kuwait Airways. International courts decided in KA’s favour but Iraqi’s have to act like entitled babies and condemn Kuwait..tough noogies pay up

  16. mahmoud says:

let your US government give you the money…isn’t kuwait one of the American states?

for God’s sake! yo spend more than 1.2 billions on Starbucks coffee each year!

  17. Kaifi says:

    Mahmoud
Yes we are a US state and are very proud. Unlike you pets of iran, and we ll spend the money on starbucks and pizza hut thats up to us. I’d rather have the money stolen in Kuwait then surrender it to those ppl in the north.

  26. Humor says:

Well, our timing could have been better. “YAH HI OH YOUR STILL A WAR ZONE? OK NPS WE CAN HAZ MONIEZ?”
As far as being the bigger man, we could have waited a while longer. We’ve waited 20 years, 5 more years wouldn’t be that long.
Oh and Iraq is being unreasonable as well, liquidating their airways out of spite. Thats not how you win.
I’d also like to point out that Kuwait had African countries owe it money but they were forgiven on the spot.
We were pissed at Saddam’s reign, why are we taking it out on the people?

  27. Mark says:

I don’t recall and African country invade and destroy Kuwait.. but my memory is really bad so I might be wrong.

  28. Humor says:

I’m pointing out that Kuwait was supposed to have a fresh start with this country. If you want to strengthen relationships then perhaps you should wait for a better time to spring up this debt. As an example of ‘strengthening relationships’ with other countries I pointed out that kuwait has given other (African) countries plenty of time to repay their debt, sometimes even forgetting them completely. So if this indeed was a ‘fresh start’ then Kuwait should treat Iraq like any other country, but that clearly is not the case.

I’m not saying theres a definite solution to this problem, just saying the hypocrisy of it isn’t needed.

If you want a fresh start and strengthen relationships then by all means do it.

If you want retribution then please be my guest and kick down the door on Iraq and demand your money back. Even though it’s unfair, sad thing is Kuwait is also justified following this route of action.
