I heard that Nasser Al-Kharafi lent the Kuwait Government some money….
2. mosan | March 10th, 2007 at 11:29 am
I think they have more but this is what they declared
3. Ashish | March 10th, 2007 at 11:35 am
Exactly. I highly doubt that the members of this country’s elite declare all their revenue in any case.
4. jaja | March 10th, 2007 at 12:07 pm
Keep in mind there are a LOT of billionaires who won’t disclose how much they have, in Kuwait and the rest of the world.
Also, rulers families in all those countries are not qualified for the list. They have their own list.
5. cajie | March 10th, 2007 at 12:32 pm
Rulers don’t qualify because the wealth really does’nt belong to them. There’ll be a revolution the next day and pffft… all the wealth is gone.

Mark.. the #3 Billionaire is “Carlos Slim Helu” Mexican from a lebanese father who immigrated to mexico, as per the link you posted
http://www.forbes.com/lists/2007/10/07billionaires_Carlos-Slim-Helu_WYDJ.html
do we count him as a lebanese!!
7. jane | March 10th, 2007 at 12:53 pm

8. Mark | March 10th, 2007 at 12:55 pm

9. pikkz | March 10th, 2007 at 1:57 pm
i am an indian , there are more indians in billionaires top list
10. greentoad | March 10th, 2007 at 2:32 pm
there are plenty of incredibly rich kuwaitis who do not disclose their wealth. I would not be surprised to see at least 10-15 billionaires from kuwait.
As for Saudi, who gives a tozz about those animals. The royal wealth is stolen from the people…..estimates at 25% unemployment rate for a country which has 25% of world’s oil reserves.
er….ok. Something smells right.

Nasser Al-Kharafi lent the Government money? Umm, I don’t think so, since there are two people who are WAY richer than Nasser Al-Kharafi, and they are Sheikh Salem Al-Ali (Who is worth about $40 BILLION, and Sheikh Hamed Sabah Al-Ahmed (Who is worth $20 Billion+). Sheikh Hamed just sold half his shares of Wataniya for $4 billion, so up until last week he had $8 Billion from Wataniya alone. Let’s not forget that he has the largest company in thw stock exchange Al-Mashare’a (which started with a capital of 100 million dinars!) There are members of the Royal Family, and they can lend the Government any money they want. That would make some sense. I HIGHLY doubt it though. Both of these people can give Nasser & Co. a run for their money. FYI: This is not how much money they have in their bank accounts. It’s how much they’re worth. For instance, I might have a 100,000 square meters land in Salmiya worth 300 million dinars (which more that $1 Billion), and I could be on the Forbes List. Get it?
Also, there any MANY rich people who don’t like their names to be added on the list. For instance the 5th richest man is a Canadian, and it’s his first time of the list this year. You think he made $30 billion in one year? I don’t think so. What you do is contact the Forbes Corp. in New York and tell them to see your papers, and you also PAY THEM a commision. When you’re name is on that list, everyone wants to invest in your company, so Forbes is also taking a piece of the pie!

Nazek looks poor compaerd to the rest of them..hehe..
(I know he can hire someone to kill me..)

this list is depressing man..:)

Dana Nasser Mohammed Alkhrafy did not lend the government money, that’s true.. but his father -Mohammed Alkhrafy- did long ago when he was alive, before kuwait blasted out with oil, he supported the government (al-sabah family) and gave/loaned them a lot of money. Back then non of the al-sabah members were rich, well not rich enough, no millions and billions.
17. Dana | March 10th, 2007 at 6:06 pm
The question is… Who is richer? The Al-Sabah or the Kharafi’s? The Al-Sabah’s also have POWER. Without Power, Money is nothing. It’s really funny how they call Kuwait a “Constitutional Monarchy,” because Kuwait is nothing like the UK. Where they are only figureheads. Here in Kuwait, being a “Sabahi” is something else. I am no way meaning this in a way. ;) Long Live the Emir!

to bio: nazek is a woman, she is rafik al hariri sister
19. Dana | March 10th, 2007 at 6:51 pm
Nazek is his widow. Not his sister. She’s the mother of his 2 youngest kids.
20. jaja | March 10th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
Dana I get your point. However, don’t forget that Mohammed Alkharafi built this fortune from scratch while Alsabah.. well they got oil.
Money is nothing without power, true. But the opposite is just as true. Money gives you power; believe it or not jassim alkharafy is the 3rd man in this country.
21. Dana | March 10th, 2007 at 6:52 pm
I think his sister’s name is Bahia or something like that? She’s in the Parliament with her niece Saad (of the Future Party)
22. Dana | March 10th, 2007 at 6:54 pm
“i am an indian , there are more indians in billionaires top list”
Yeah, but out of 1.5 billion people, that’s really nothing.
23. Dana | March 10th, 2007 at 6:56 pm
“Money is nothing without power, true. But the opposite is just as true. Money gives you power; believe it or not jassim alkharafy is the 3rd man in this country.”
Believe it or not, Jassim Al-Kharafi is a puppy to Sheikh Sabah and Sheikh Nasser. They are the ones who put him in that position. They could of put Ahmed Al-Sadoun, who has nothing, and was the Parliament speaker for 15 years. Parliament speakers come and go, and the Emir can dissolve the Parliament anytime he wishes. So basically, Jassim Al-Kharafi is nothing.
24. Dana | March 10th, 2007 at 7:01 pm
Do you know what happened to the Kharafi family recently? If you’re saying that he has power, he could of turned what they did to his brother. They ARE NOT allowed to sell or buy stock for 7 years in the Kuwait Stock Exchage due to corruption. If he has the power, he could of turned this rule that came from the Government. They won’t have close to $11.5 billion next year. Take it from me!
25. Andy | March 10th, 2007 at 7:20 pm
ohhh yes…. sorry :D

That is a good point, but all that money was made through hard work. It wasnt just easy oil money that they were born with. And the population is about 1.25 at the moment…which is a lot..but that makes the competition harder …which makes these billionaires more stronger…they didnt have to just pay immigrant workers in the desert 100 dinars for 800 dinars of work and keep the profit and flaunt their wealth.
27. Dana | March 10th, 2007 at 8:17 pm
Ok… You went tooooo far! Who told you Al-Kharafi’s wealth or Al-Ghanim’s wealth comes from oil? They’re not from the royal family, so they have/receive nothing from the oil. You could say that to Sheikhs with billions, but do you see their names on that list? No, because they don’t want you to critisize them. If they put their names on that list, the source would be “Inherited,” and they inherited that money from their parents. Most of our Sheikh are multi-billionaires from the oil, and we’d be kidding ourselves if we said they didn’t. That still doesn’t chanage that there are some Arabs who worked hard for their money.
