Burger Review: The Little Oven

The Little Oven
The Best Burger in Kuwait Challenge
I am going to start “The Best Burger in Kuwait” challenge with a burger review from a place that many haven’t heard of. The Little Oven is a take out and delivery restaurant located in Bneid Algar. In the office we usually order sandwiches and maneesh from them but a friend recommended I should also try their “Famous House Burger”.

The Little Oven burger is made using homemade patty, caramelized onions, emmental cheese and grilled mushrooms. It arrived inside a rectangular box which made me expect to find fries on the side but it turned out to just contain the burger which came cut in half.

Visually the burger looked appetizing and the bun felt soft and wasn’t covered in sesame seeds just the way I like it. The general size of the burger wasn’t very big but the beef patty itself was pretty thick. I could easily devour two burgers and very possibly a third if I was really hungry so its not really a filling burger. The burger was surprisingly good considering it wasn’t a proper restaurant nor a burger place. It was delicious and the caramelized onions didn’t over power the burger with flavor while the bun was pretty good although I highly doubt they bake the bread themselves. When done I felt like the burger was a bit dry and might have used some Heinz ketchup but it was too late for that plus they didn’t provide any ketchup packets.

It was a really good burger, one that I am craving for right this minute but I am going to be hard with these burger reviews because really I can’t imagine any burger being really bad. Its very hard to fuck up a burger unless you’re really an idiot. When reviewing these burgers I am NOT going to take into consideration anything except the burgers. Location, service, price and quantity will not matter since its not a restaurant review its a pure and simple best burger review. I am hovering between a 3.5 and a 4 for the rating but I am leaning more towards a 3.5 because I truly believe when it comes to burgers in Kuwait its going to be a really tough competition. We have a ton of places here and I am expecting to be truly impressed. So the final score is a 3.5 out of 5.

The Little Oven telephone number is 2517899/8
The cost of the burger is KD2.400

    Looks disgusting from the picture.

You may want to rig up a small light tent to show your experiments in a better light. And I mean that literally.

I’m posting this here, and over at the original “Best burger” post.

Mark, while someone was recommending a burger from slider station i got to thinking, most places have multiple burgers, on what basis will you choose the burger to rate at a specific restaurant?

In many burger joints, i could love one of their burgers and hate another, so how are you gonna pick from the hundred options available at slider station or burger hub, etc…?

Or are you gonna try every single one? ;)

Mark how will you be able to remember which burger is the best when you try out all these places and burgers after a while? Beside, how many burgers will you try in one place? Is it going to be one burger from each place or you’ll try out all burgers from every place?

  9. 9. Ahmad | March 12th, 2008 at 3:41 pm

I remember their burger was good (but not as good as Johnny Rocket) but I also remember that it came with fries!

that’s pricy considering it doesn’t fill u up. I still stay true to johnny rockets. Bring on the next burger! :P

I have been all around the world and I am quite the burger connoisseur.

I have tried all burger places in Kuwait and from my experience it seems that all these Kuwaiti made burger places taste the same.

In my opinion the best place in Kuwait for a burger is Fuddruckers….hands down.

Tell them no butter on your bread and cook the meat to medium-rare and you in business. Best burger in Kuwait!

  12. 12. Mark | March 12th, 2008 at 4:33 pm

Nawaf, my favorite is currently fudds also but there are a lot of burgers in kuwait which i still havent tried.

  13. 13. Mark | March 12th, 2008 at 4:47 pm

Salah, don’t worry i will remember which burger was good and which wasn’t. I will try one burger from every place. They all usually use the same meat and the same bread with just the toppings and sauces that change.

fuck this burger, the best burger in kuwait by far is the #12 at johnny rockets.

  15. 15. Amjad | March 12th, 2008 at 5:31 pm

I agree with cajie. the burger does look disgusting.

    generally I hate thick burgers.

BTW, you got to try my own burger, man. lol

Well one things for sure, I am not going to carry a light box with me a restaurant so I could take pictures. I will try taking my small camera but light box is out of the question.

Will see how these reviews will go, its a learning process.

Little oven don’t offer generous ammounts for the price that you pay.. I usually order there kashkaval(ash2awan) manouche but they put mozarella cheese instead and they’ve messed up the order a countless amount of times!!

wait till you read my next burger review you won’t be as hungry anymore. i am trying to figure out if 0 is the lowest score i can give or half.

1 down.. a ton to go!

  22. 22. ray | March 13th, 2008 at 12:12 am

it doesn’t look very appealing, #12 and fudd’s are both great. the sicilian burger at burger hub is equally tasty… but when it come to great patty, soft bun, and the best sauce i would choose our home made burger. ;)

Madison Burger at slider station is the simplest yet tastiest. Comes with only cheese and sauce. Tried this Little Oven Burger, not bad, just that the patty has a lot of fillers.

lol. that would be priceless - if just to see the look on the face of restaurant staff!!

Proper lighting is the difference between making the food look appetizing or revolting. But of course, I don’t have to tell that to you.

You just have to find a way of taking the pictures in a better light - that’s all. Perhaps order one extra as take away, and then shoot it at home?

The Breadz Mushroom Burger = Orgasmic.

On a side note, if in London anytime soon try the burgers at Black & Blue.

lol I think I am going to just carry my d70 with me with the 50mm 1.8 lens although a bright macro would be perfect for this but don’t think have the budget for it.

  27. 27. punky | March 13th, 2008 at 9:34 am

i repeat gaucho grill, the fudds burger is good but for a thick burger the patty taste is not 100% there is that too meaty taste and smell to it
