Voila! it's still all looking so retro-chic it reminds me a little of Salem Mubarak Street back in the winter of 1989, flashback to 13th December 1989.
Sometimes, I say to myself, will the Beirut of 1957 ever return? And the answer is always yes, but in a different city each time.

What is sad now is that Syria is marketing a big lie: Come and try Syria and you will find that it's like Lebanon and maybe better. When tourists get used to it, they will come back every year...They forget that Lebanon is a quite different experience.

maybe it's because it's summer, that has it's effect too. In winter they would still stay in Lebanon, but in summer they take the chance and move out. You know your people well, do you think they could have left Lebanon just for the summer? And that that might be the reason why the streets are emptier than usual and not just the bombs?

Equalizer, this trick worked when Hariri was killed, not anymore...Since a lot of the prime real estate is owned by the Gulfies, the prices dont go down.....everyone knows it will recover, just question of when.

And come on people, u didnt really think Syria was goin to let Lebanon have a touristic summer did u? Not after they (Syria) made bumper profits from the spill over last year.

What I admire the most is the Lebanese peoples' defiant spirit and refusal to allow any threats to dampen their quest for a good life. I was at Lebanon last month and it was so sad to see the depressed looks on people's faces and how dejected they felt. Times are so hard and I hope for their sake that the situation gets better

Yeah I agree, a person's life is so precious. So you know that Lebanese white cotton candy that's always available at the airport? Yeah? Great :)
