Sneakers

I hate the sneakers that are available at Foot Locker and Athletes Foot here in Kuwait. In the past few years I don’t think I’ve even purchased any sneakers from here, I always ordered them from Amazon and other retailers online. Other than the fact that they don’t carry certain brands here, most of the retailers play it pretty safe and just get your average looking regular dull models. In the UK for example Foot Locker isn’t even counted as a trendy store for sneakers, Size?, Offspring and Foot Patrol for example all have better taste and carry funkier collections. Athletes Foot barely even exists outside of Kuwait!
One of my favorite TV shows is Entourage and one of the characters on the show is called Turtle who is a sneaker collector. That gave me the idea to also start my own sneaker collection. Its still really small but I only just started so it should grow a lot more in the coming year. You can check out all my sneakers by clicking on the continue reading link below.

And here are three sneakers on my to get list:

Buying sneakers is easier than old game consoles? You’re out of your mind! You’ve obviously never been to the Friday Market, where old consoles grow on trees…

on the contrary

I know Kuwait is a gold mine for video games. I got my brand new SNES and NEOGEO from here but the stuff in friday market is usually junk and I prefer pristine condition items.
This is what I have so far

Since Foot Locker UK was mentioned, might be worth saying - if a man wore more than half those sneaker designs in the UK, he’d be beaten up if not rodgered senseless with a broom handle.

Sneakers do not exist in the UK. They are called trainers.
15. leb | November 7th, 2007 at 11:15 am
Holla - you are an idiot, people call them sneakers when they are collectables, trainers are just normal shoes used for sports

Hey Mark,
Ever actually discussed this with the local retailers? It’s not a case of playing it safe, it’s a case of what the mass consumer here wants, premium sneakers here just don’t sell because of the lack of education from the average consumer here in Kuwait. Yes there’s an argument we need to educate the consumer, which will take time. Their have been trials and tests on limited collectables here in kuwait and the GCC, none proving successful. People here want safe, and looking at people’s past comments on your awesome sneaker collection, that proves it. Companies are concerned with their bottom lines, and ’safe’ is what the mass consumer wants and brings in the pay cheque.

As a commnet on your game hobby mark, why do you have all those consoles when you can replace them with emulators on your pc? this is what i do currently since few years back i discovered someone has raided my MSX and Sega consoles and thrown them away, i went every where searching for replacements and found the emulators quite handy and dust free… and they dont take up any space at all!
19. Mark | November 7th, 2007 at 12:23 pm
emulators are fine but they are just that, emulators. Its like saying have a desktop wallpaper of the monalisa is like owning the painting..

A good discussion to be had. One main issue is that the brands do not distribute the limited and rare collections/packs outside of the Tier 1 stores, such as Foot Patrol, Ryouki and Main Source in UK, DQM, Supreme, Union and HUF in the US, Neighbourhood in Japan, etc.
There is a tier system that exists in all markets, and the bigger retailers, such as Foot Locker, do not get access to these styles.
I understand that this is being addressed in Foot Locker with the “Energy Door” ranges - these are strictly limited to 1008 units worldwide, with top stores receiving 24 units only. These are wild colours, different styles, etc that you cannot get anywhere else. Kuwait has been selected as an Energy Door, so from December onwards, there will be Puma’s (such as the Yo MTV Raps suedes, some Nike Stabs, Reebok ERS, etc. coming to Kuwait that will be on a par with what is coming out of the key markets.
Don’t think it is not for the want of trying, it is a case of distribution as much as knowledge and desire.
Get your broom handle out!

Holla and Fader - I grew up on the streets of london - just cause you have a pc doesn’t mean you know anything, plus - your mama’s breast milk taste better than mine, cause it’s full fat

Btw… Athlete Foot’s store at the Avenues is more adventurous than their other branches. I found some cool stuff there, but then I’m more into retro sneakers

The store you refer to in Entourage is called Sportie LA. It’s an actual store on Melrose and it is AWESOME. We stumbled into by mistake and then realized that that’s the store Turtle bribes people into getting in. They have sneakers selling for $4,000! But I agree with one of the posts up there, there is no market for such a huge variety, people still don’t accept that they have to pay a lot of ’sneakers’.
Shame…
