Speedo gear swap

speedo gear

Tonight I swapped out my Wranglers speedometer gear since the original stock one thats installed wasn’t working properly with my 33inch tires. My speedometer was off by around 10-20km/h and it was also effecting the transmission shift points. Installing the new speedo gear was pretty easy but it felt very claustrophobic under the Jeep. Now I need to figure out how to test the accuracy of my speedometer…

Let Nat drive the Z4 at a specific speed and you try to drive at the same on the same road. That way you will know!

Use a GPS if you have one. Few years ago I used my GPS and found that my car speedometer was 10 km/h higher than my actual speed. When I asked alghanim they said they did that intensionally so people are always below speed limit!!!!!! Stupid idea.

By the way, I used a chip programmer to collaborate speedometer and shifting point on few cars in the past. How come you had to replace hardware part?!

seriously? Companies in Kuwait come up with the strangest things..

My Wrangler uses “a highly sophisticated scientific system which is very complex with which to calculate the speed: A little plastic gear on a stick”

There is a simple equation speed = distance / time

the motor way has distance markers almost every 100m, next time use another highly sophisticated device called a stop watch and viola……

ps: go when there is least traffic so you can maintain a constant speed.

One solution I once used is have someone sit with me with a watch that has a tachymeter and count the time between milestones on the road. You need to measure the Big (green or blue?) ones (1Kilo) the small ones are 100 meters apart. The Tachymeter then will point to your speed.
Little complicated but good as a poor man’s solution.
No GPS needed and as accurate as your watch and your timer-person. :)

The speed display on Fahaheel expressway (under the Sabah Al Salem bridge, going North) doesn’t work. It shows 190Kmph standard for all cars, no matter what speed they’re going.
