I recounted the memory of seeing a beautiful kitten writhing in pain on the 605 FWY near LBC. I was so stricken with feelings of anger, guilt, powerlessness... I sped by and saw poor kitty living out the final minutes of its life in absolute agony. It was heartwrenching to imagine something so precious experiencing pain, neurons firing, the poor, poor kitty moving all about... Writhing because its whole existence is pain - not love, not spoiled comfort, not joy... Pain. If the freeway had been less busy I would have stopped the vehicle and killed it with my boot. I wish that I could have ended poor kitty's pain. Alas, kitty writhed on as I passed. The paws clawing at the heavens as if to say "why me?". Blessed Kitty I hope that your brave little soul took from that which it needed. And, if you take a higher rebirth - perhaps a human this next time - I would love you as my child and protect you from all harm. The freeway is no place for a kitty. I miss you kitty and I am sorry that I couldn't end your pain. At least one other being cried for you that day. And, you weren't alone in that horrible, miserable place. What a wretched feeling that must be. I once saw a cat being run over on the turnpike(don't ask me how it got there).
