URGH!

Qualitynet are having problems again! I can’t even talk to support because their lines are so loaded. The automated answering system won’t even put me on hold because there are no waiting slots available, they’re all taken by other customers waiting. Sucks!

Update: Qualitynet were just over. According to the support guy my DSL modem was very old and was causing me the problems. They’ve swapped my black wireless Speedtouch modem with a white wireless Netgear. Hopefully I won’t have anymore problems after this!

Tonight they will send over the head of corporate support with a small KD5,000 device to see if they can fix your problem.
Going by this rate, am sure he will be visiting your place atleast once in a week.

  17. 17. Burhan | September 9th, 2009 at 8:46 am

What can I tell you — that hasn’t been said before. Its your own fault for sticking with them. Enjoy your service.

  18. 18. Mark | September 9th, 2009 at 8:56 am

Everyone is right, I suck. No more qualitynet but I have 3 months of subscription still left with Qualitynet. I just checked and it expires on December 9th. It would be such a waste, thats like KD75 down the drain.

  19. 19. Frankom | September 9th, 2009 at 9:27 am

I had a problem with KEMS two days ago
i spoke to that guy who gave a ticket number for following up (received it by SMS as well) the next day they called me telling me that they fixed it

    What a service, ha ?

  20. 20. ynoon | September 9th, 2009 at 10:17 am

just wait until the big day 9th of december

  21. 21. Ytilauq | September 9th, 2009 at 10:17 am

Actually I think it is Qualitynet who are PWNED and not Mark – I think this time he is adamant – me thinks the only way Qnet can solve this now is that they appoint a dedicated person that follows Mark around everywhere holding that thingy and rent an apartment for him right next to Mark’s – Ofcourse he’ll have to take lunch brakes.

  22. 22. The Kuwaiti Godfather | September 9th, 2009 at 10:45 am

Hey Mark you don’t suck the service of qualitynet sucks. My friends all advised me to take their pothetic service and now they too are all moaning. Thank god KEMS is great!

  23. 23. Lucky_Boy | September 9th, 2009 at 10:59 am

FT is better than KEMS in reliability (they have strongest backbone in Kuwait), but they have one annoying problem, they don’t give you the same speed as other ISPs! (eg. 256kbps DSL downloads at 26kb/s max, instead of 32kb/s with Qnet).

  24. 24. N | September 9th, 2009 at 11:14 am

Mark: After reading your previous post I decided to go with KEMS, my line should be up today. I took an oath 3 years ago never to go back to Qualitynet, and this just confirms that I made the correct decision.

  25. 25. Mark | September 9th, 2009 at 11:21 am

N: please share with us your experience here after they’re done setting up your connection

  26. 26. Bohanwa | September 9th, 2009 at 12:25 pm

lol after having problems with them for the past 5 years im still with them, just coz i cba (can’t be arsed) to wait 3 days to change my ISP. And the last time i called this guy answered me saying i work with quality net and don’t have their connection as i know we face problems…”ive got viva” is what he told me!

    so imagine that!

  27. 27. ma7 | September 9th, 2009 at 1:21 pm

i swithed from KEMS to Qualitynet 9 months ago :S when they offered the double speed promotion… they told me we need 3 days to change the jumper in MOC it took them 3 Weeks!!! now i’m waiting for december to change back to KEMS they are much better, customer service wise and connection wise as well.

  28. 28. 3azeez | September 9th, 2009 at 1:23 pm

@ninesixfive, how can u play CoD 4 in ramadan?! In the morning it gives me headaches since I’m fasting… and in the evening I’m with family. Can’t find time to play it at all! LOL.

  29. 29. Marvix | September 9th, 2009 at 1:59 pm

my advice to all from IT manager …

All the ISP are using sharing technology, for example 1MB/15, mean the if you have 1MB at home there is another 14 home sharing you this 1MB, and since you and the another 14 home will never use the 1MB same time … you will always feel it as it is 1MB ..

Qnet is over loaded, with very old equipment (Alcatel) … there is no upgrade since ages and they use 1/15 !

Go to Kems or Fasttelco … they all have Cisco, and the sharing lower 1/8 !

  30. 30. aaa | September 9th, 2009 at 2:10 pm

i never used KEMS, i disconnected my united networks subscription 2 months early to switch to qualitynet, which may have been a big mistake. i think my next stop will be KEMS, but what after that? we are doomed.

  31. 31. aalbahar | September 9th, 2009 at 2:22 pm

Try United Network. I had same problem with QualityZeft. Then I switched to United Network. I have been with them for 3 years with no problems :)

  32. 32. Bj | September 9th, 2009 at 3:04 pm

Mark yeah don’t cancel your subscription because they don’t do refunds, I am stuck with them until summer of 2010 so in a sense your lucky lol. Again I cannot stress this enough, before you switch double check and make sure it’s an issue from qualitynet and not an issue with the phonline itself. If it’s the phoneline then the problems will continue no matter what ISP you use.

  33. 33. SWOS | September 9th, 2009 at 3:20 pm

think am going to go for KEMS when my DSL expires in a week! screw them.

  34. 34. EaaS | September 9th, 2009 at 3:28 pm

mmmm………… still waiting for a new company to open-up in Kuwait :D

  35. 35. Zen | September 9th, 2009 at 3:52 pm

Bj: i dont know what you are talking about because i got refunded after they kept trying to resolve my problem, they just deducted the amount of time i used actual internet and gave me back the rest.

  36. 36. Holla | September 9th, 2009 at 4:19 pm

Quality zegg is getting worse than fast telshit, what a fucking joke.

If there is one comprehensive aspect of a mashallah local business you can count on, it’s the inevitable and timely degradation of their goods or services along with unexpected and unexplainable increases in operating costs and product pricing.

Monkeys wearing small ready-to-wear Safat dishdashas could do a better job AND go the whole day without accidentally wetting their serwal taweel.

  37. 37. wi-fi | September 9th, 2009 at 5:15 pm

with Kems If the internet is down .. i will know that the cable has been eaten by a yaryour ..

i thout u will try the new zain internet and give us a review .

  38. 38. BJ | September 9th, 2009 at 5:20 pm

Zen: Really? the guy I talked to said something about if you cancel your contract you don’t get a refund…maybe he was lying. Thanks for the info Zen I will call again and look into this.

  39. 39. q8dizer | September 9th, 2009 at 5:53 pm

Mark : just do what I did

call them once a day . every day , just prove them that you really sick from their services and surely It will show you the light by the end of the tunnel .

  40. 40. Ezz | September 9th, 2009 at 6:20 pm

i did what q8dizer said and finally i got my 2mb upgrading from 1mb after 2 weeks :) , keep annoying the technical support and u will get what u want

  41. 41. Mark | September 9th, 2009 at 6:24 pm

I’ve already annoyed technical support. I don’t want a connection upgrade, all I want is for my 2MB connection to act like a 2MB connection. I have issued with pages not loading, with pages taking too long to load and other random shit like that. I am starting to think it would be from my DSL modem which they gave me, the black thomson wireless router

  42. 42. TanGo | September 9th, 2009 at 7:18 pm

only one way to find out!

  43. 43. Vipul Patel | September 9th, 2009 at 7:28 pm

KEMS is the most prudent choice from home/corporate broadband services in Kuwait.

  44. 44. Akbar | September 9th, 2009 at 7:33 pm

    Mark,

It sounds a bit unreal to expect full connectivity so I wouldnt hold my breath to expect a 2MB connection act like a 2MB connection. There could be packet losses due to the telephone exchange, your junction box or anything in between the main server of ISP and your network point. Sucks but it is true. With the telephone networks and infrastructure we have in Kuwait, no home connection will give you a constant bandwidth to its full capacity. Even corporate connections cant boast of that all the time.

  45. 45. Mark | September 9th, 2009 at 8:44 pm

My bandwidth is at a constant 2MB, my problem is that my web browsing is slow. If I download a file now it would download at around 226KB but it takes around 10-15 seconds just for my blog or digg or engadget etc to start loading.

  46. 46. lunardream | September 9th, 2009 at 9:07 pm

dude, already got my full refund from them and screw qualityshit,…no more, I’m heading straight to KEMS!! hope that 3000 KD gadegt that they brought ya helped !!

  47. 47. Burhan | September 9th, 2009 at 10:01 pm

    Mark:

    1. Change your DNS, QualityNET (and FT) have some of the worst DNS caches in Kuwait. KEMS is okay, but no better. I guess lesser of the three evils. Try 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3; that might resolve your lookup problems; especially if your actual connection is working fine.

    2. The cache that they use tends to get overloaded easily. I recommend using an external proxy. One of the best investments I ever made was to get my own dedicated server in the US, on which I run my own proxy. That way, when everyone is having ‘browsing’ issues, my browser works fine. Since this cache is only for HTTP, it will also explain why you are having problems browsing and not actually downloading.

I’d love to meet this “IT Manager” that’s giving such informed advice on contention ratios.

  48. 48. Burhan | September 9th, 2009 at 10:02 pm

    Mark:

Forgot to add, all of that might still not fix your problem — since all the tweaking and 5,000 KD gadgets can’t do shit if the backend is working on equipment from the 1980s.

  49. 49. Mark | September 9th, 2009 at 10:03 pm

Hey Burhan, I’ve got a dedicated server with Rackspace thats running this blog. Could I run my own proxy on that?

  50. 50. Akbar | September 9th, 2009 at 11:03 pm

    Mark,

Maybe its not your ISP but the browser itself? Which browser are you using? And does it have anti phishing, identity theft, on access virus scan enabled? The new browsers come with so many hidden plugins enabled, you wonder what is wrong with the internet…Try using a different browser, Firefox is a quick download and install…There are many cheats and fixes for browsers to reduce the page load time.

  51. 51. Mark | September 9th, 2009 at 11:16 pm

Akbar: I am a Mac user so I use either Firefox or Safari. No anti phishing, identity theft, virus scan software installed :)

  52. 52. Burhan | September 10th, 2009 at 9:45 am

    Mark:

Yeah, as long as its running some (any) flavor of Linux. Its a 2 minute job to install it and have it running.

  53. 53. Hammour | September 10th, 2009 at 9:55 am

    @Marvix,

Sharing ratios? Overbooking? that is misleading and absolutely incorrect, not a single ISP does that in Kuwait except of course for Zain, Viva, Wataniya & probably show time satellite internet but those again are not ISPs now are they :)

  54. 54. Exile | September 10th, 2009 at 10:02 am

Mark. Have you ever thought that maybe since they read your blog, they are messing with you..

  55. 55. aaa | September 10th, 2009 at 4:37 pm

when i switched from united networks to qualitynet they also gave me the free thomson router. and they refused to install my old linksys router with the other repeaters in the house saying they dont know how. so i threw out the thomson and read the manual and reconfigured the linksys, which automatically reconfigured the range extenders. this is when i realized they were unprofessional, which coinicided with the first day into my yearly subscription. a few months to go and then its KEMS .

  56. 56. Q80Warlock | September 11th, 2009 at 3:57 am

Qualitynet’s biggest problem is not their infrastructure, it’s the low grade tech support and networking employee’s that don’t even have the slightest knowledge of networking basics.

Also the 2 third party companies that do configuration/Home support suck so bad. My friend had one come to his house imagine when he didn’t know how to fix the problem he told my friend to cancel his account and go to another ISP !

  57. 57. Basel | October 29th, 2009 at 11:54 am
