Yellow Stained MacBook
Some people are now reporting that their MacBooks have started changing color which is really messed up. I mean before I was worried about the overheating problem but now I am worried about this discoloration. Now I am trying to figure out if I should cancel my order or not. So far there have only been 1 set of pictures which 1 person took but its blurry which is always fishy. Will wait a day and see how this progresses and then decide if I should cancel my order and wait a bit. [Link]

Macbooks suck ass. Theyre so fucking flawed. Definately cancel ur order (based on the points that fatality just brought up). I say get yourself an iBook. The generation just before it died out. I have one and i upgraded my ram to 1.25 GB and my HD to 60 GB and it works like a charm, never brokedown or stalled in the one year I’ve had it. I’m sure there are som places that still sell iBooks in Kuwait. Cancel your order and go get an iBook.
hey Mark, if you read through the comments.. please explain how this happens .. if you have oily or dirty hands it will stain the MacBook, you need to keep your hands clean when using it.. and the way to clean the make book is to use screen wipes!!! I saw all the comments on Digg.. so people explained how this happened! that person is just dirty! lol
Fuzz the iBook was already dead before the MacBook came out. They were outdated since they hadnt been updated for a long time. They cost like $900 brand new online now but I wouldnt get one. When it comes to computers you never buy last years technology. Actually this applies to all electronics..

This sounds similar to what happened with my Powerbook, the black dots below the keyboard, next to the mouse.
I say cancel and order it again in three months when they’ve worked out the bugs.

its not very common but it happens with certain people who have sweaty hands like you. i am thinking this yellow stain is caused by the same problem. some people have acidic sweat…

Mark, I’ve upgraded my iBook to perform like the new shit. Barely any of it is original, and I’m about to update my processor to 2.0 GHz. It can do everything the macbook can do minus the built in isight cam, which i dont ever use anyways (externally on the iBook, that is). Why buy the newest if it is flawed? I think the new iBook is just a tragic product from Apple. If you want to get a new apple laptop, get a macbook pro. Those things rock. Another reason I’m justdamn addictedto my ibook is because I’ve taken it everywhere and it’s served me fucking well :P
Also, I’m going to the states this summer and getting it professionally re-painted and designed to make the exterior look like a metallica album/archive scrapbook. Should turn out pretty fucking cool.
By the way, hasnt anyone thought that the discoloration might be caused by the heat produced and it’s effect on the exterior material from the inside of the computer???
dude all you did was upgrade the ram and hard disk, thats not upgrading your laptop to perform like the new shit lol
also could u please tell me where i can upgrade my ibook to 2ghz? I am interested in this since I thought it was only possible to upgrade the older Powerbooks only.

If the stains are caused from dirty hands
you can clean them off with body lotion
i always do that with dirty keyboards at work

I use serato on mine in hot sweaty clubs for 2 hour dj sets, whilst recording 4 96khz inputs into my pro-tools mbox at the same time. All pretty labour intensive stuff and my dual 1.42ghz G4 tower at home wont even do this??
The heat issue can be caused from a crashing application.
I found that i had a dodgy widget which would set the fan going wild when i first got it – Activity monitor showed it was sapping resources, so i uninstalled and now she’s as cool as a cucumber never have any heat issues – so i dont get it??!?! however, i too get marks on the palm rest area – black not yellow though – looking for a product that cleas it succesfully.
I’ve experienced the same problem, left side stained while right did not. Figure that one out. I’ve tried, clorox clean up, Ceramabrite, Magic Eraser, SnoBowl, with no luck. This is not a stain but a reaction between the chemicals in your hand and the paint. I constantly use hand lotion, maybe that was part of the cause??!! But sorry, no luck in getting rid of the marks… :-(
this happened to my computer. dirty hands + white macbook = dirty macbook. i found using make up remover (i used clean by cover girl) on the stain then going over it again with nail polish remover seemed to get rid of a lot of the stain. i suggest as soon as a stain starts to appear you should try this otherwise it’ll be too much.
Standard ammonia or ammonia with soap works perfectly to return the white color to the laptop.
