   i got mine from the UK two weeks ago.. for 175 dinar!! -_-

   well, the price also included all codecs preinstalled, the docking and case…

   btw i have a question for you Mark, how can we tell if all codecs are installed? When I click on the archos store > plug-ins , they all show with green tick next to them.. that means they’re installed right? yet for some reason two of the movies that i have wont play and ask me to buy the plug in. and when i click on the buy button it takes me back to this same page where i cant do anything >_<

   but ARCHOS 9 is a netbook, right? that’s a different product for ARCHOS 7 which is a media tablet..

   the archos 7 is technically a “Internet Media Tablet” cause you can browse the internet and stuff with wifi. the archos 9 will just do it a lot better with a bigger screen faster processor and windows 7.

   FYI: There is the Archos 3, 5, 7 and 9. They don’t compete with each other each has a different purpose. I would never get the 9 because its too huge to be a portable media player. The Archos 7 is already too big so lugging around the 9 wouldn’t be practical. Also the 9 is like a netbook, the 7 has just 3 main purposes, music, video and browsing and thats it. Its not a portable computer its a large media player.

   The Archos 9 competes against the likes of the Asus Eee PC or the MSI Wind, not the ipod or the iriver media players.

   most companies are releasing merged devices, cause the lines between (mobile phone / mp3 player / gps / netbook/ p&s camera) are all blurred now. samsung are coming out with atom powered android phones which could also be called netbooks.

    I got mine for $299 one month back (and that was with a gold box offer). Can’t believe it’s reduced in price so much.
    It’s a perfect companion while travelling with it’s amazing battery life.
    I did not purchase any additional codecs but it pretty much plays all my torrents. The additional codecs are needed if you have HD content.

    You need codecs if you have ac3 encoded videos also.

    i still prefer apple’s iPod touch…much more portable since the screen is exactly half the size of archos ones….what do you think mark ?

    if you want to listen to music the ipod touch is definitely much much much better and more practical. if you want to watch videos there is no comparison, the Archos are wayyy wayyy better. If size is an issue check out the Archos 3 which is the ipod touch direct competitor and its pretty cheap.

    Once my salary comes in I am thinking of buying an Archos 7. Mark alot of people who reviewed the device on amazon say its very buggy and whatnot, and so did you in your first posts about it. Was there some sort of update that fixed the issues or what? I don’t want to spend money on something that is sorta broken when it comes to its software.

    BJ: I had one issue with mine and that was the screen would flickr in brightness when I had it on high. But the problem is gone, from what i understood reading online is once you use the Archos for a while and charge and discharge it a few times the problem gets solved and thats what happened to mine.

    Software wise havent had any issues from the start but Archos have been updating the firmware introducing new stuff and fixing old bugs.

    Hmm sounds good, last question, I heard there were wifi issues, did you have any issues with the wifi of the device? Not being able to pick up a signal or the signal getting lost just at random while connected?
