Does anyone know good shop with wide range of audio and video cables, cable converters etc. Before I remember there was one called RadioShack(?) i think in Hawally, but I cannot find it now.

The only time price will matter when buying HDMI cables is when picking a version. The version indicates what the cables can do… Pick the version that matches your needs.

I learn the most useful things on this site. Now I know why the salesperson was so keen for me to buy the gold/monster cable when I bought a plasma/surround sound combo a few months back. They used the same “Pay a little (??!!) more to make the most of your system” argument. If I’d known then what I know know, I oculd have saved myself 50kd!

Too bad can't use a coat hanger as a substitute for HDMI as can be done for audio cable. Then I could stay in my house, keep off the roads, and keep the 2 KD in my wallet where it's nice and comfy.

I once got into an argument a while back when I was buying the PS3 from Rihab complex when it first came out (got it for 350KD – damn) and the salesman told me if I wanted a “Monster Cable” HDMI cable for 60 KD, I told him no thanks its not worth it. The guy next to me says “your buying a HD gaming system why not spend a few more KD and get the best experience”. Told him that “it wont make a difference, its digital, its all or nothing trust me”. He say’s “no trust me I know what I’m talking about, I just order a custom made 50m HDMI cable (back then it was 1.1 spec) for 400KD”. My response………”good for you”.

Moral of the story? do your own research for everything and google is your friend.

P.S. moster cable is still expensive.

And yes, I agree too, price does NOT effect quality – its just a cable.

And comment no.15: “The expensive gold plated ones would be rust resistant and will probably last for ages.” Rust resistant? Do you watch TV out in the rain or something? Who the heck would need a rust-resistant cable? And ANY cable… is fixed when its bought and that’s about it. No one takes it out a thousand times daily and plays with it. So as long as its fixed in one place – it should last a lifetime – irresespective of price.

i got mine for 18KD :S

the difference wont be in the quality of transmission of the signal, but the quality of the cable itself.

The expensive gold plated ones would be rust resistant and will probably last for ages.

Also the ends of the cable are very durable and strong, so you wont have any problems with the cable not working over time (like having to bend the cable to make it work)
