Unlocked iPhones are being sold over the internet BUT nobody is assured of SIM card compatibility – iPhone sold in the US are SIM-FREE (no place to put your SIM Card.

The New Zealand Website referred to for buying a Vodafone Unlocked iPhone will deliver ONLY to a street address and somebody has to receive physically the delivery and they WILL NEVER deliver to a BOX or a BAG – meaning the forwarding mail box is USELESS.

Went to Hawaly today and there is a shop that sell and unlocks the 3G iPhones.
The guy name Nizar and his shop is in the complex next to Walaa Complex, the name of the shop is Computer somthing…i got his number 99787619

Bow n Arrow……tht is wht even Bojacob told me over chat……but i really do not want to mess this up just cause i cant get the names to display if i prefix the numbers with +965….neways iphone is comin to Qatar soon so i guess there should b n update with Arabic suppport n the caller id fix….
wht is annoying is tht whn sme1 sms across the number appears and no name since i manually formated all the numers without the prefix!!!!
i no have to remember #\s of “NEAR n DEAR” one!!!!

Hey NH, It should work on officially/legally unlocked iPhone 3G’s.. I wouldn’t suggest trying anything until someone shares his/her success. :)

If you’ve gotten an Jailbroken and unlocked iPhone 3G, you should already have ‘Installer’…

I just got a text saying that Qatar are obligated to offer the officially [legally] unlocked iPhone 3G’s. :) They can’t seem to work around the simcard exclusivity thing in some countries.

Can anyone else confirm this?

It is said that if you Jailbreak your officially unlocked iPhone 3G [adding Installer app in the process] and look through it, you’ll find certain fixes and patches.

I don’t know if this has been tested yet, but I’m gonna try it on mine soon.

Anyone try it?

i got this from NZ and it works like a charm. i even upgraded to 2.1 and the network is amazing……i didnt use the NZ box add 2 get this i got it shipped from a friend of mine…

only 1 issue though…having problems with the contact number format….
this is how i am enterin now – +965XXXXXXX but every time some1 calls me the name does not appear only the number…….ne solutions????

I presume Jassim never produced the phone then. My wife bought a 3g in the US at the Apple store – you must sign up for a 2 year contract on the spot. It’s impossible to get an unlocked version in the US and there are no hacks to do it either from what I know (the pwnage tool for example doesn’t unlock it yet). Some countries are however obliged by law to offer unlocked versions, so look to Italy (I believe) as one possible source and a few other European countries.
