Yeah I had the same problem with my Nokia 6630...
Turns out if I disable "Warning Tones" in the profile settings, it works...
But yeah, it was annoying for the time before I figured that out...

It is true that the new phones tend to have the clicking sound enabled by default.
I had read this article quite sometime back where people were really concerned about doing away with people being able to take pictures without permission.
The result was very lewd shots of people in the most undesirable positions!!
To stop this nuisance some mobile phone companies have started disabling the option to remove the sound while taking photos.
But then again ... there are always people who find a way around ..!! the war continues....:-)

you cant turn off the sound of the shutter, neither nokia or any other brand of phones are allowed to have the option of silencing the shutter sound, i think the main reason is exactly why you want the sound off.

so people wont go around taking pictures without the photographed persons approval, i've seen this happen many times in kuwait, men sitting on tables in very classy restaurants and snapping pictures of women on other tables, and under the table, and zooming

it is invasion of privacy

I have nokia N73 the only option available which you can turn on/off is for the flash light, the sound on the other hand has 4 options and all 4 have different sounds, there is no other option that says none. The only ways I can think of to disable it is using applications such as the one Mark mentioned which is the easiest way or you can try 2 other advanced applications [ X-plore & Active File] Both of these apps gives you the option to access your cellphone system files which you can edit, replace or delete anything you want. Now since you have 4 sound options try to access your sound files which I'm not sure in which directory they are located, but if you find them just replace one sound file with another one imported to your memory card or phone memory and replace that sound with another sound which is silent, the sound that you are importing should have the same file name that you are trying to replace. So now when you choose from the camera sound options available the one you replaced would be your silent sound file. This is a very long time consuming way especially if you have no idea what your doing, but for those who love playing with their cellphones these tools would do the job and more.
