You better have that iPhone chained to your body if you want to use it like that in a NY subway.

I doubt it would work in our part of the world!, since the public tranportation sucks your only chance is finidng a stinky taxi.. I wish kuwait did the same things as Saudi.. Mobily is the official registred seller for iphone’s.. and all functions and extra’s work legally !!

Augmented Reality apps were available on href=”http://uptill1.com/2009/06/18/augmented-reality/”>Android. before the 3G S, and the floodgates will open with the new Nvidia Tegra chipset.

N: There were already augmented reality apps on the iphone but whats changed now is they’ve added a compass to the iphone. So now u get augmented reality apps that use GPS to know where you are and a compass to tell the app which direction you’re facing. thats not possible with the Android.

Mark, this has nothing to do with Android, which is just a mobile platform/operating system. I’m sure you meant the Google G1 phone (HTC Dream). The G1 does have a (digital) compass.

We can’t even get Google maps to give us simple directions in Saudi Arabia or kuwait or anywhere in the region. Try it, go to maps.google.com and try to get directions.
Surprise surprise only country in the middle east with google maps direction as far as I know is israel….

Yousef: yeah I meant the G1, didn’t know it had a digital compass.

The Android based G1 and later G2 are the first phones to have the augmented reality concept with the compass. This is a link to the first application of its kind running only on Android so far:
    http://layar.com/
iPhone 3GS version is coming next, infact any phone in the future that has a compass will be able to run this application/browser.

Mark: The G1 has a digital compass. and uses it even with Google Maps.
    Check out this video:

Yeah N, Google StreetView in Compass Mode is pretty awesome. Google SkyMap is also another application that uses the compass.
