Showtime and Orbits black box?
A few days ago a friend of mine was telling me about a new receiver that allows you to watch Orbit, Showtime and ART for free. Then yesterday I read an article in Campaign ME about how these companies are now worried this receiver will get popular and how they busted some guys selling it in Dubai. The way it works is the receiver connects online and downloads the latest codes the descramble the signals, its kinda like cables black box in the States. Anyone heard of this? I think the brand of the receiver is Starbox and sells for like KD100..

the one i saw is named dreambox
its really impressive
runs on linux
has a hard disk
can be connected to a keyboard and stuff
u can find it online cause its very popular in europe
the guy i know who has it pays like 35kd a year to connect to this server where the reciver downloads encryption codes for the channels to unlock them
not good for watching sports
as ART change their encryption every 2 minutes!
when the codes change it takes about 1 minute to take effect with these recivers

I saw dreambox and starbox and both run over linux.
Starbox is cheaper and you can get it for 150-160 as for dreambox its around 200 kd.
They have access to almost 500 paid channels which include showtime, orbit and art, jazeera sports but doesnt work with ART sports as mentioned earlier.
I’ve heard some people sell from their houses as its illegal to sell it off the street.

I have the mutant box which runs on some russian linux programming. Certainly dodgy, but yazeed has it right. You need a DSL connection to download the hacks for the various channels from a server for which you pay a subscription fee to have access to. Basically, satellite heaven all the sports, porn, movies and TV shows you can humanly watch. The dreambox has a hard drive as well and can act like a satellite tivo. Once again, they are all dodgy since they are basically selling illegal satellite tv and the machine’s themselves are not very stable and crash often. The unit costs around 80 and the subscription 60 for the year.
