It seems like instead of writing deep complicated characters, the writers decided to go with The Stereotypes. Dumb Hot Blonde Heroine. Angry Black Woman Sidekick. Gay Black Prostitute/Drug dealer Comic Relief. Incestuous Murderous Hillbilly. Brooding Good Guy Vampire (Brunette). Snarky Evil Vampire (Blonde). Prejudiced Poor Bitch. And the list goes on and on. And then there are the heavy handed life lessons. If you are a Slutty Female, you will Die Horribly. If you are a Slutty Male, you will get in trouble but ultimately be ok, unless you are Gay, then you will Die Horribly. Losing your Virginity will lead to Horrible Things. They might have just as well taken Buffy, Twilight, Interview with a Vampire and any other show or book and stuck them in a blender. Fun yes. Original and Smart. Not so much.
