My brother buys bottled water from Kuwait whenever he travels to Egypt. He has medical condition and can only drink bottled water. He told me that it is ridiculously expensive to buy Evian's bottled water, if you are lucky to find the real Evian and not bottles filled with tap water.

First of all,, even American are crazy bottled water drinker and many researchers and the FDA (www.fda.gov) found out that some water filled as just tap water by many companies and it is rip off, beside some plastics today should have a code of safely if you try to see at the bottom of the bottle.

Secondly: New custom security even bottled water is not allowed on the plane, so either they got it from the plane at the end of their flight, or the airport upon arrival or their tourist guy is giving it to them as a courtesy. Another hint when I lived in Kuwait 30 years ago the International testing after the filtration Kuwait had the best water and that was attested by pediatricians. If you go Taiwan or the Orient, you are recommended not even brush your teeth with a tap water….. Kuwait is still better than many countries.

guys maybe i wasnt clear in my post, they brought their water bottles from the US or wherever they were not from a bakala on the street. It was some brand I hadn't seen before.

Also I don't know what kind of hotels you guys stay at but water bottles are always free, including here in Grand Hyatt, room service always leave 2 bottles at least, I have 4 because I drink a lot plus I tipped the room service guy ;)

It's a common sight. Be careful when you buy bottled water. The actual price is around 2 Egyptian Pounds only. But some shops charge you 5 - 20 Egyptian Pounds. Best option is to bargain! Yeahhh, sounds funny to bargain for a bottle of water...but believe me people over there cheat you a lot, be it water, juice, clothes or anything!

lol there's nothing strange about that, bottles of water better than bringing machla (household food for month) into the hotel, that would be kinda weird.

overall, come on....it's Egypt!

i agree with buying your water from outside the hotel for cost reasons. the pricier the hotel the more logical this is and they can't say anything about it.

in the case of egypt, it may actually be safer too.
