Banged up in Kuwait

There is a British TV show called “Banged Up Abroad” where the stories revolve around British citizens who were arrested abroad usually on drug related charges. The trailer above is for an episode where a British guy in the late 80’s gets caught dealing drugs in Kuwait and gets sentenced to 5 years in prison. Saddam then invaded Kuwait in 1990 and he was able to escape back to England.

What I don’t get is this TV show. Why would you turn criminals like drug dealers into semi celebrities? [YouTube]

Note: Qualitynet users, if you get an error that the video is no longer available its because of Qualitynet. The video is still online but somethings weird with the Qualitynet connection and 80% of YouTube videos are showing as no longer available. I’ve been having this issue for over a week now.

*Answer to your question* Well because criminals attract attention, if something is spoiled in a group of good apples, everyone will focus at the spoiled one.

A hash smoker / dealer / grower is not a criminal. Whats criminal is giving him a five year sentence. I am soo happy I no longer live in that police state. Expats, get out now! Fuck money, its not worth it (not that Kuwait pays as much as most people think). I’d rather live on $1 a day in subsaharan Africa than to ever return to that oppressive country.

mmm, I agree, you disrespect the law in a foreign culture you should pay the price. He was lucky, yes, but he doesn’t deserve a book…Bearing in mind his capture was legitimate and he DID sell drugs he should donate the money to charity… cheeky b***tard!

Q8 hater seriously..if you didn’t care about Kuwait so much you wouldn’t take the time to bitch about it..and for you to type in ur name as Q8 Hater just goes to show you that deep down subconsiously q8 is in ur mind…so if you don’t like Kuwait, good for you, keep it to yourself or have the balls to say it to a Kuwaiti face to face.

thank god you left q8 its negative vibes like you that bring us down.

p.s. no one gave a shit that your gone. =)

It is criminal of the police to set him up themselves and smoke the hash themselves. He was a naive schoolboy and they probably decided they were bored and needed some action, so decided to screw him over.
    Its disgusting.
Most of the police in Kuwait are absolute scum, although I feel sorry for the police who genuinley want to be honest and just, but cant because of all the corrupt ways, and wasta, which must make life tricky.
Im glad the boy got out, he was part of a cruel game.

Just realised that this sounds rather perverted, ‘bored and needed some action, so decided to screw him over.’

haha im sure you know what I meant.

I am one of the producers for “Banged Up Abroad” and we are currently looking for stories for the new series. If any of you guys know someone who has been to jail overseas and would like to tell their story, could you please pass on my details?
