The earth is flat

This is a video of a serious debate between an Iraqi “Researcher on Astronomy” and a physicist on Iraqi television. The astronomy guy is trying to convince the physicist that the world is flat and that the sun is smaller than the earth. [YouTube]

wow, I can’t believe some people still think that way.

  2. Talal says:

I love how the smart guy pulled out not an astrophysics book or something like that, but what is CLEARLY a 4th- or 5th-grade science book as his “proof that the earth is round”. LOL

  3. Mark says:

lol yeah i noticed that to, a 4th grade book from like the 70s

LOL. The Quran says that Earth is FLAT!? Haha.. this is new. I guess they’re reading Quran Version 2.0 written by one of their friends.

  7. ara says:

If they took this cave man to the moon, then he will see the earth ROUND.

  8. Lexicon says:

this is sad…really sad but whats even more sad is he misinterpreting the quran and airing it out there as if its true

  9. AMQ says:

    o-m-g…
i have never seen such a closed mind….he is sooo narrow minded..

  10. 3azeez says:

AMQ, he’s not narrow minded. He’s just someone from the stone age. he probably never seen a computer and the closest thing to technology he knows about is a black and white old tv with no reception!

    wtf!!!!!!!!!!!
who are these people?! what kind of debate is this?! have we gone back to the time of Copernicus or Galileo?! i am surprised that any body would even consider this as a debate topic and air it live on tv. all i can say is OH MY GOD!!!

  12. .grg says:

OMG!!. I THOUGHT SUCH BEINGS WERE EXTICT.
(this guy should meet my physics teacher, its gonna be one hell of a debate)

  13. muhannad says:

I felt offended that some one is trying to sell that Quran is wrong/ old aged and so his believers.
what came to my mind immediately is “fuck them bad and roughly”.

  14. Monotheist says:

lol wut? It’s interesting that in over 1400 years of Islamic scholarship no one made that conclusion but him.

  15. lfc-q8 says:

i would loved to ask him if i took a plane from kuwait to USA then to japan then from japan to kuwait via hong kong… how would that be possible?

  16. balboa says:

the guy in glasses got issues he doesnt no shit about anything im only in the tenth grade i can wipe the floor with his theory in 2 seconds

  17. sfsa78 says:

    Monotheist…
How ignorant you are about what you preach upon others.
We’ve all heard about your hero.. Abdulaziz BIN BAZ.
He made a fatwa declaring the world was flat.

    IBIN BAZ controversy
One influential modern Muslim jurist has been said to have claimed that the earth is flat, and that anyone who denies this is an unbeliever. Ibn Baz, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, was a traditionally educated cleric who suffered from blindness. In 1993, he is said to have issued a fatwa, or religious ruling, declaring, “The Earth is flat. Whoever claims it is round is an atheist deserving of punishment.”[70] While the edict reportedly caused embarrassment for many Saudis, Ibn Baz issued a statement maintaining that the earth was spherical but expansive enough to be flat.[71]

And if that ain’t enough proof.. look it up on the net.

  18. Zorbon says:

BTW, this is an “idealogy” that is spread throughout the world…
I have heard of The Flat Earth Society from my Physics teachers back in 94…

    Disappointing. خالف تعرف

  20. Mek says:

Man, I just wish they’d had debated it on the basis of evidence rather than which book was correct.

Some of the members at Kuwait’s astronomy club tell me people with such odd beliefs always pop up there every two to three months.Last time it was geocentrics that believed the earth was the center of the universe. Flat earthers are a bit more rare I’d guess. :)

  21. RealBurger says:

    All false info!
“The moon measures about 2160 miles (3476 km) across.
The distance is about one fourth the diameter of the Earth, and 400 times smaller than that of the sun.”
This is a crazy person and there are Millions like him.
Mark why you post something from a garbage channel?
I know Its on youtube just like everything else.
Why not post about a “Christian baba” that cure disable people with tap water?!

  22. ebrahim says:

    شسالفه؟؟

    إي والله خالف تعرف!!

  23. Monotheist says:

    Safsa87,

    From your own source:

“Supporters of Ibn Baz said that the book in which the flat earth claim was supposed to have been laid out does not exist, and that the entire controversy was based on one interview with Egyptian journalists. They said that Ibn Baz, as he clarified later, was referring to the surface of earth that we walk on being flat although he believed the Earth to be spherical. In Arabic, the same word is commonly used for both the earth as well as the ground. The journalist, having not paid attention to this distinction, misquoted Ibn Baz and created a story”

    So there ya go.

  24. Nour says:

LOL. WHY IS THIS BEING DEBATED?

The physicist looks SO pissed off for having to listen to this BS.

“I have seen the sun moving.” Priceless! And I’m loving the whole “scientifically” backing his, um, theory, with Koranic verses. Good call, Mr. Crazy Mofo.

Seriously, though, I don’t think this guy has ever heard of, or would ever even believe, the idea of the indeterminacy of observation-derived theory under empirical testing… and he’s not even relying on actual empirical testing, just his (f’ing crazy) senses.

And we wonder why we’re not advancing as a region. Get your shit together, everyone.
