Review: N-Bar

N-Bar

Last week after I posted about Beautylicious and Cupcake Boutique, I got an email from the N-Bar manager telling me he wanted to send me a gift card so that I could go and try his nail bar at Galleria 2000 in Salmiya for a complimentary manicure and pedicure. I was more than happy to accept his gift since I haven’t been to the N-Bar salon yet and was interested in trying it out since I passed by it a couple of times and it looked really funky.

I went on Saturday without an appointment since I couldn’t get a hold of them but they still managed to fit me in since another customer had canceled her appointment. The first thing they did was take me to a large stand displaying a lot of nail polish colors and asked me to pick one, once I did they asked me to have a seat. They have sinks built into the floor under the seats with pebbles inside for pedicures which I found very smart and cool looking.

As they started working on me an employee came and asked me what I wanted for my drink. It turns out they have a bar in one of the corners of the salon with a drink menu. After I picked my drink, the girls moved to the second stage of my manicure and pedicure which was a foot and arm scrub followed by a good two minutes of foot and arm massage which was the ultimate. I could seriously have one of those for hours and hours and never get enough.

Once they were done with the massage came the coolest part, the double dip. They brought a bowl of hot peach flavored wax for my hands and a mint flavored one for my feet and they then dipped each of my limbs until they became all waxy and the wax coat started to dry. It was cool like something from a sci-fi movie. They then put a plastic bag around each of my hands and feet and then put on a pair of heated mittens and a pair of heated slippers to keep them warm. The purpose behind this treatment is to make my skin and my nails smoother plus its very relaxing. Seven minutes later everything was removed and my limbs briefly massaged one last time.

The salon has little side lamps all over the place which u could aim towards ur hand and feet when done to make the polish dry faster. But, whats cooler is the bar which has an opening on top and another on the bottom which gives out cold air. That way I can just sit on the bar when done, have a drink while my nail polish dries. All in all it was a good experience and I would probably be back again for another one of their treatments.

Pros:
1- the staff is pretty friendly
2- the place looks feminine and cozy and is immaculately clean and germ free
3- they have a bar so all we need now is alcohol while getting my nails done:)
4- i love the built in sinks which are thoroughly cleaned with detergent after each pedicure
5- opening hours are good from 10am till 10pm
6- the nail polish bar were u could pick your color is a cool idea
7- the furniture is comfortable so you don’t get a backache by the end of your treatment

Cons:
1- At some point the second chick who was doing my pedicure left to go to another client which left me with one girl who did both my mani and pedi which a bit time wasting since i expect my hands and feet to be done at the same time. (but then again i did come without an appointment)
2- They had an Arabic music channel playing on their plasma screen. It doesn’t really suit the mood of the place, they should have a more ambient chilled out music playing instead.
3- The double dip treatment i did made my nails very oily so the nail polish took 2 to 3 times the normal time to dry. They should come up with a solution for that since i had to wait more than an hour for my toes to dry.

Final score is a 4 out of 5.

Sounds amazingly relaxing. I have yet to find a place that gives phenomenal manicures and pedicures like in the USA. But this one just might be the one–

  22. 22. Blabla | March 22nd, 2007 at 3:25 pm

So how much would you pay if you go there? and would you still think it is good if you paid that much!!!

  23. 23. Nat | March 22nd, 2007 at 4:21 pm

Here are some of the prices of main treatments they have:

1- Quickie Manie (basic manicure) KD 4
2- Dip N’ Wrapped Mani (wax treatment+quickie mani) KD 8
3- Diamond Indulgence Mani(super luxury treatment using de la mer products) KD 25
4- Quickie Pedi (basic pedicure) KD 5
5- Dip N’ wrapped Pedi (wax treatment+quickie pedi) KD 9
6- Diamond Indulgence Pedi (super luxury treatment using de la mer products) KD 35

    Then for last
7-Double Dip from N-Bar specials (dip n’ wrap for both hands and feet which is the treatment I had) KD 15

They have more treatments available so you can get a hold of their brochure if you visit the salon. Gift certificates are also available which is cool.

I still have my nail polish on since saturday which is pretty much a record for me since it usually starts chipping from the second day but they did put me an extra special coating to make the polish last longer and that’s usually an extra half KD per limb.

Blabla you get what you pay for. And yes I think it’s a fair price for the treatment I got.
