Why anyone would migrate to a country that lives against their religious beliefs is something I never understood.

Which is more important? Making a living or being true to your religion? The answer to the question should determine where you migrate to

To each his/her own! Live and let live! I don't understand why fanatics of all stripes feel so insecure in their beliefs that they constantly have to insist that their way is the only "correct" way. I think it is especially cowardly to suggest that if you are not a "muslim" according to their rules, then it is not even worth talking to you or trying to understand your point of view. Living ethically does not mean that you have to be a straight, bearded, covered-in- black-from-head-to-toe, "true muslim." Living ethically means treating people kindly, loving your neighbor even if your neighbor is nothing like you, appreciating life and doing all you can to make it better (i.e. taking care of the environment, alleviating as much suffering as you can, etc.), tolerating people's right to express themselves and to practice their own forms of worship. Just because you pray five times a day does not make you a better person, nor does it give you the right to judge others. Enough with the hypocrisy! Enough with the rigidity! This tyrannical version of Islam has taken the Arab world back a hundred years. We need to take responsibility for ourselves, to stop relying on our politics of blame as an excuse (it's racism, it's colonialism, it's globalization—yes, it may well be, but it's us too!). We need change and we need it now. Some of us are suffocating under the pressure of this one-dimensionality!

Unanamous you're absolutely right. Very well said.

Stuart We know that the video is intend to teach immigrants more about the dutch culture and not just expose them to gay people. This post somehow turned into a discussion about homosexuals because another blogger "Rehan" was saying negative stuff about them and the dutch culture. And this footage is nevertheless a very smart idea indeed to expose unaware immigrants to your culture before they make a wrongful decision.
I love Holland by the way and I intend to visit sometime in the near futur since I haven't been there yet:)

I'm afraid many of you are wrong about this.

The exam is not about homosexuals in The Netherlands, it is about the fact that many immigrants -especially muslims- don't care about learning Dutch or how to behave like the Dutch (not referring to the gay footage). Many immigrants who have lived in our country for longer than 5 years (enough to learn our language), are not 'integrated' in our Dutch socieity.

Many of the Dutch are, well, quite annoyed by this, as they can't properly communicate with the immigrants.

Conclusion; the footage of Gaypride (it's a festival) is shown because many muslim immigrants dispise the gay as it goes against their religion.

Note: many of the Dutch do not like immigrants as they -I hate to say this- commit more crimes than the dutch themselves. I do not 'hate' or dispise the immigrants nor muslims.

Dude rehan, you have to understand its not something you can control. You cant flick a switch and just make yourself straight. And because the muslim religion has banned it, 90% of the kuwaiti population, are in fact gay, you can see it. Pink shirts, tight jeans that they paid extra for just so they could be ripped. I see male kuwaitis walking round in some clothes meant for women! So it is perfectly natural to be gay, and it is not something you can control.

And to carry on with nat and raine, i agree too, Islam has been given a bad name nowaday thanks to extremists and muslim ways. In england, it is very common to find both sexes hanging out together, but often in an area with a large muslim population, the local brits are often critisized and bullied by the large 'gang' of muslim men as to them it is wrong. But since when has it been their right to criticize the ways of the nationals. If they see something wrong, why dont they bugger off to their own country! Also a while back, it was banned to celebrate christmas publically, as it was 'offensive' against some of the local immigrants religion, namely islam. So not to be totally racism, but i do not think it is fair for immigrants to move to a country such as france, britain or america, and complain about the ways that the country is run, that is why i feel the 'video' is a very good idea. I am personally fed up with people coming from foreign countrys to live in mine (england) and thn complaining about the way it is run. Also another problem was france, when they banned any sign of religion, as france is anti religion in that it has no state religion, it was the muslims of the country who by the way are immigrants, who complained first, as the women were banned frm wearing the hijab in public, meanwhile the jews of the country said nothing and just accepted that they would not be allowed to wear their skullcaps.
Anyway to end this essay off (sorry folks) I agree with Nat and Raine, and feel that this rehan fellow is very foolish to think he has the right to go around putting dirt on gay people, and telling poeple who have a wide horizon in terms of their outlook on life and the world that they are shameful. You should apologize to "3abboud of rak" and everyone else you have denounced. Shame on YOU!

Here here Nat, Raine, and tj. Religion, including Islam, is supposed to be about peace and tolerance. People like rehan have hijacked Islam and turned it into a weapon of hate. I have zero tolerance for people who preach, and who feel as though it is their right and business to judge people. As I've said on more than one occasion, only people riddled with guilt about their own existence feel the need to constantly judge and dictate to others on how they should live their lives. Nothing irks me more than people who call themselves "muslims" and yet maintain their "God complex", as you said Raine, and feel the need to impose their interpretation of religion on others. Just goes to show that they don't know the first thing about Islam or any other religion for that matter. Like tj said, just look at good ol' SA...!

Nat - I agree. It seems people have decided that they have the right to decide what does and does not make a "good" muslim. In essence, they have a God complex. This is part of the reason Islam is in a crisis and has such a bad profile all over the world. The most vocal "muslims" are the extremists, and they have the arrogance to believe that they can judge the world in the name of their (interpretation of) "religion." Sadly, these people are often the least educated, least compassionate, and most hypocritical of the bunch. What a mess they have made of things. I thought religion was supposed to enhance your life - make you happy and tolerant... but these people always seem miserable and they hate everyone! If life is a gift, they have squandered theirs.

SMg u saw me? I don't usually reply to people i don't know, specially on the gulf road if u know what i mean..

Rehan for your information Homosexuality is also not acceptable in christianity, if you read more on other religions you would know that. I don't mind gay people, their personal preferences is none of my business. It's not your problem to tell people what they can and cant do and what is wrong or right. God teaches us to accept others regardless of how they are. You seem to think that everyone who doesn't share your beliefs and views is a enemy of god and a sinner. What gives you the right the make that judgment. Judge yourself before you start judging others. It's pretty clear by now that you seem to be nothing but an extremist.

For approx 400 years the Dutch economically, politically & religiously oppressed the people of Indonesia. They colonised our country, treated our people as 2nd class citizens, pillaged our natural resources, killed & exiled thousands for daring to oppose the Dutch occupation. The ones who suffered and were oppressed the most were of course the Muslims (Indonesia is 90% Muslim)

Now they complain because in the aftermath of Indonesian independance many Indonesians formed migrant communities in Holland.

Hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy.

Do not be naive. Dutch "liberalism" has its foundations rooted in ethnocentrism, slavery, racism, exploitation.

This test is just another ploy to keep the "enemy" at bay-the enemy being anyone who is not a white Christian European.
