DS not a turn on
2 days ago Nibaq left his DS at my house for me to play with. Yesterday i spent all night playing Metroid fusion zero mission on my gameboy. The DS was laying next to me on the table and I wasn’t tempted at all to just grab it and play with it instead of my gameboy..When our PSP gets here I probably wont even notice the DS on the table. Sorry Nibaq i’ll give it a shot again today ;)

I left it with you guys cause I dont have a charger my brother gave to my cousin. So the plan was let you guys charge it for me.
The Killer App for DS will be Advance Wars and Animal Crossing.
And nat you can’t touch it, its Mark’s PSP. You will have to wait for yours.

advance wars and animal crossing.. this is your idea of killer aps? yawn… so boring man.. no thank you, would rather stick to more grown up games.
PSP rules and the DS sucks!
5. nibaq | April 3rd, 2005 at 5:25 pm
Animal Crossing, is going to be great with the multiplayer option visiting other towns and such. And Advance Wars is going to be the best in strategy having 2 screens, being able to control troops with the pen.
My issue with the PSP is that its nothing new, its just Play Station Portable and we can go oh and ah about that it can play videos and mp3s and images, but thats what we did when PS2 came out and could play DVDs then we found out it sucked and its better and cheaper to buy a real DVD player.

man the DS is nothing new. Whats new? 2 screens? so what, thats trying to hard to be different. the psp on the other hand is all new. no system ever has been able to do what the psp can do. it makes the ds look like a childrens toy. the psp target audience is 18+ while the ds is everyone else from 18 and below.
for one thing the psp has wifi, the ds doesnt. the psp you can add memory cards, the ds you cant. you can watch movies if u want on the psp. the ds you cant. you can get online with the psp, you can put pictures on the psp, u can listen to music on the psp you can hack the psp. all stuff the ds cant. all the ds does is play games, but the problem with that is that it doesnt even do a good job.
the dual screen was cool in the 80s with the game&watch because since you couldnt scroll up or right or whatever back then, the dual screen solved that issue. the dual screen on the ds on the other hand doesnt solve any issue.
my adivce, trash your ds. oh wait, the ds is at my place. count it as trashed.

Where do I begin?
DS Hacking:

Wireless

DS Linux:
http://www.dslinux.org/
DS Yan:

Let me check now. You said it doesn’t have wifi, and you were wrong, can’t play music or movies, wrong again. Can’t hack the DS, hmm wrong again.
Only thing I am letting go is getting online with the PSP, cause why would I or anyone use it. There is no keyboard or mouse just the d-pad and the buttons. That will be real helpful with typing a website fast or even chatting with someone.
The only thing I wish the DS had was a vibrator so that when I shove it up your ass it would give you 8-10 hours of enjoyment compared to your PSPs 3-5 hours.

I just saw your comment on my blog:

I guess the DS is already stuck up your ass. Just relax and breathe and it will come out eventually.

the site you got is wrong. although it might be using a wifi varient it wont work like you think it will. you wont be able to get online from any hotspot using any internet connection and play with people.
currently the largest size game cartridge for the ds is 128mb. yeah have fun watching a 5 minute trailer with that.
cool you can play mp3s on the ds! perfect no need to lug around my ipod, will just keep this brick in my pocket… my big cargo pants pocket of my x-large size pants.
the psp has a keyboard, just hasnt been released, it connects to the bottom size of the psp. why would anyone use it? stupid remark, its as if you are saying why people need internet.
DS battery life is 6 to 10 hours. thats it.
the psp battery life is currently 3 to 6 hours with the option of increasing it to 100 hours if you get extra batteries.
oh and guess what, this month the psp screen is pink! your favorite color!!

Again where do I begin again.
Here is a good explanation of the wifi system in the DS. http://www.darkain.com/nintendo_ds/nifi.php.
The other thing is that the PSP web browsing is a not built in. Its a software thats in Wipeout.
Also you should read, I posted the link for you. The movie and music option uses SD memmory. Which is cheaper and better than Sonys Mem Stick.
Hmm you make a valid point with the DS as an MP3 player. Let me check the measurements again:
The PSP dimensions are:
Approximately 6.7 in (W) x 2.9 in (H) x .9 in (D)
DS Dimensions are:
Size (closed): 5.85″ wide / 3.33″ long / 1.13″ tall.
Cool the same pants can also be used to carry the PSP and since you won’t be needing your iPod anymore want to sell it cheap?
A keyboard attachment to the PSP you mean this thing? http://www.joystiq.com/entry/1234000930034371/
Thats really practical.
As you mess around with that I will be surfing the net with my p910 or my powerbook. Thats a bit more practical dont you think?
100 hours of battery life for the PSP that is going to be one long daisy chain of AA batteries, maybe its a car battery with wheels?
YAY a PINK PSP SCREEN! I guess thats from the dead pixels.
11. Mark | April 4th, 2005 at 10:33 am
did you actually check the DS wifi link u sent me? basically says what i told you.
surfing the web with a p910? no thank you would rather browse webpages the way they are meant to be seen. also web browser is going to be released by sony, currently there is the wipeout pure one. he we can chat on irc with psp can you with the ds?
12. nibaq | April 4th, 2005 at 1:59 pm
Browse websites like they are meant to be seen? That doesn’t make sense, do you on a gaming system or your computer?
And is IRC is your killer app? When was the last time you were on IRC? DS has its own chat system remeber called PicoChat, where you can send drawings and type on it without an external keyboard that looks impossible to type with.
You pulling things out of air now, so far everything you mentioned is wrong. And that WiFi hotspot thing, read it again.
So simply it is just a software thing, like your Wipeout browser. Nintendo or anyone can just release some software that enables the TCP/IP and tada I am online too, and look I have a keyboard and mouse built in that I can use! But like you said I’d rather browse webpages the way they are meant to be seen.
13. Nat | April 4th, 2005 at 2:12 pm
So seems like you guys are taking over my post! break it off already!! :p
14. Mark | April 4th, 2005 at 3:06 pm
i mean the p910 displays websites vertically while the psp wide. if you dont like all in one devices why did you get the p910. you wanted pda, browser, mp3 player and phone all in one.
why is the psp such a bad idea then. its a videogame machine, a movie machine, music machine and internet machine all in one. just means less stuff to carry.
yeah did you read the wifi thing, with the psp you dont need any special software or anything, its built in. nintendo has to have everything customized…
now irc is not the killer ap, and its sad that all you see is an irc ap here. the issue is that people like you and me are developing software hacks for the psp, this means irc ap today, and fuck knows what tomorrow. its bigger then you and me. its bigger then all of us.
15. nibaq | April 5th, 2005 at 7:13 am
The PSP is trying to do everything but didn’t get one thing good except being a Portable Play station.
As a video machine, wtf I just got the movie on DVD now I have to go buy it on UMD again to watch it on my PSP? If they can get a DVD –> Memstick thing going then we might have something. But then we would have to carry around 1gig or 512 memsticks and those aren’t cheap (currently).
Music, you mentioned it earlier with the DS its too big and the PSP and DS size are the same. I’ll stick to those stand alone mp3 players.
The image viewer, seems the most practical, but even the ones in the market are “eh”. The only real thing I can compared it to is the iPod Photo, but that has one cool feature is that you can move your digicam pics form your flash card to the iPod hard drive. So its a good way to make sure the files were copied.
As an internet device, it is just not practical. It will be good to view basic websites, but typing a web address is a pain. I even tried it on a Nokia 6600 with T9 and took forever to type. Yes there is that keyboard add on but even the joystiq guy was making fun of its size.
Also websites like yours right now is more vertical than horizontal.Like magazines, so this wide screen thing you mention doesn’t mean much on websites. Unless they are those weird flash ones that take forever to load.
The PSP as a Play Station Portable is great. I played Ridge Racer on it and was very impressed on graphics, screen and feel of it. It is what is says a portable play station, which is what makes it great, and its crutch. I dont see anything new or even worth while to go buy it. I understand your point that it would be great to have your own private screen and play multiplayer games in the same room with the power cord. But then when I take it outside the house or on a plane trip and dont have access to power I am screwed with the battery life. Hopefully the better battery is coming soon and not like how the GameGear was with its power reservoir thing cause that was impractical.
I guess its cause I dont own a PS so I dont care about the games that are coming for the PSP which are ports or new games based on previous PS games. The only games I want to play on PS is Katamari Democracy and thats is being ported to DS. The only game that would interest me on the PSP is Wipeout Pure cause the PS version was one of the few games I played on that system.
My brother said it best “PSP is ok, but the PSP2 is really going to kick ass” . And I agree with him, it is like first year new car models. They look cool and impressive, but filled with faults and not just perfect, but when the second edition comes out and they fixed those problems and advanced the features then your just hooked.
