I did it again
Two weeks ago, a day before I left for my vacation I went into my managers’ office and I resigned. It was my third time now quitting an agency in two years. I have been really unhappy and unfulfilled in my job lately that I just had to get out of there. The team I work with are all more or less very pleasant people with a couple of exceptions, but it’s just that the nature of the work I’ve been doing lately was really starting to put me off. It was turning me into a depressive, always cranky and bored version of me and I couldn’t have it anymore.
Of course I made sure I had another job waiting for me before I quit and hopefully I will get to be happier in my new job by doing more work that I enjoy working on instead of getting sucked into a daily intolerable boring routine of dumb silly projects.
Is it just me or is it hard to find a satisfying job here in Kuwait? Well in my line of work that is anyway.. I know alot of people who keep jumping around from one company to another and no one seems hardly ever happy in their job.

Jumping around doesn’t help

I guess changing jobs that you have been working for less than 2 years can make you unreliable employee. So too much jumping around less than 2 years indicates that you are not satisfied with your work.

Yeah well the first job I stayed in for 9 months. I left because company was starting to fall apart. My second job was only for 2 months and it was a mistake in my transitional phase. As for my 3rd current job, I’ve been currently working in this company for a year now. Sometimes it gets so frustrating that you just have to face reality and do it disregarding any future consequences. Some people stay in the same job for years miserable and unfullfilled without even considering quitting maybe for security reasons. I guess I’m just not that type of person..

I guess I know what you mean! I have a co-worker who wants to leave work before she forgets what she studied! :oP
I wish you all the best though and hopefully you will find something you like!

inshalla you will be satisfied with your new job! Sometimes its horrible to working something that you dont enjoy and it becomes repetitive.. your better off doing what your doing.. as long as you got a job lined up!

I hope this one works out. I feel truly sympathetic with anyone in Kuwait trying to find a job they really want to do, and feel happy in. Not because it’s a crappy working environment here, but because it’s a small country and therefore limited opportunities. I found the same problem in Singapore largely due to the size of the place.
10. unknown | July 22nd, 2006 at 7:55 pm
yes you might you and mark migrate to Dubai, more opportunities.
you will not satisfied in any job here so don’t make it hard for you.

i don’t believe that the problem is only here in kuwait.. it’s all over the world!

I definitely say it’s better to change jobs, even if it’s been less than a year, if you’re not totally satisfied with what you’re doing. And yes, it’s normal in Kuwait for people to take some time and jump around a bit before they really find their niche. If you don’t take risks, chances are you won’t find what you’re looking for. A couple of years before going back to grad school, I accepted a pretty risky job offer in Kuwait, which ended up turning into one of the greatest opportunities of my life. So don’t worry - you’ll find it. It’s nice to see someone who’s passionate about what they do, who’s not willing to settle simply because it’s the “safer” option.

it’s hard to find a statisfying job because few people looks for job satisfaction here. Most people wnat to laze around at work and do nothing. They do this because they think that it makes their life easier, when in realty it makes their lives more mundane and bland.

I wouldn’t worry too much about switching often so long as you can explain it to future employees. Plus if your book is strong, then that’ll overshadow moving around often. Good Luck!

dude job jumping is a sign that you’ll prolly not be happy till you start your own firm.
a few years ago would have been a perfect time, but even nows a good time if you have a 5 year horizon.
10 bucks says you jump around next summer too :D :P

I think what you did is best. Good luck in your new job. All I know is that working is always stressful in Kuwait. Nothing is organized and people are so lazy and rude!

Do medicine, every minuite there is a new case and new patient. Sometimes it is pain in the neck but mainly it is intristing and chalanging :) That is if you have 7 years spare in your life for med school

Hahaha…Like Dubai is the best place to work now! It’s a blasted nightmare nowadays….
1) Cost of living is ridiculously expensive
2) Horrific Pollution
3) Disgraceful Traffic
4) Way too many trash people
I lived there for 3 years and left in 02. It was a much better place to live and work - now I dread my monthly return back there.
By the way, trying to start up a new firm in Dubai nowadays is almost impossible. Why? Because they’ve opened up the markets to all the massive multi-national companies. Any new upstart firms get pushed aside or crushed with saturated pricing.
Nat, the best thing to do is be your own boss. Pick a niche, look for a couple of uselful, productive partners and work your way into the Kuwait market. There is still enormous potential here, much more than people really see!

yea…there are people like me here… I worked four agencies within five years in kuwait!!! and longest period was 3years in one place…creativity never rocks in this country Nat…there are award winnind ad for a brand placed a wrong logo in it…flipped logo on a full page launch ads…. (you know who did it) Wearing batman mask never brings you his power, which is happening the BIG labeled International agencies here…mailish

26. unknown | July 23rd, 2006 at 1:43 pm
“Moey” you are stupid racist person
i would rather surrounded by millions of egyptian and Indian rather than stupid Kuwaiti police
27. The Legi | July 23rd, 2006 at 2:13 pm
I was in the Palms beach club the other day. A mini brawl broke out….The fight was between a Kuwaiti man and his wife. He slapped her in public.
They sent the security in to deal with the situation - but the Indian and Filipino guys were too scared to throw out the Kuwaiti man. They stood there looking at the idiot.
In the end, the other Arab members in the club all ganged up against the Kuwaiti and forced him out of the club.
That’s why Indian and Egyptian Security are useless in Kuwait. If they were Kuwaiti security - do you think the same thing would have happened?
In Dubai, it’s the same thing. The locals there don’t give a shit about the cops - because they are mostly Indians etc.

I know exactly how yer feelin’… after a while, when you stop absorbing and the job becomes boring, tedious and so full of routine, you just “grab the dress from under” and run for your sanity! Hehehe.. ama lead your steps too soon enshallah!
Wish you the best Nat!

Asmaa is right. It is not just Kuwait. it’s the whole world. It’s hard to find work where the satisfaction/return is worth your personal commitment/investment.

Thanx guys. Well Dubai is not an option for now. We have a dog and living in a studio in Dubai wouldn’t exactly suit his or our needs. If Mark and I are going to move out of Kuwait it will either be back to Lebanon or out of the gulf to Canada or something. It’s hard to find a satisfying job in Kuwait in the Advertising field mainly because the market is still not very developped to suit our creative needs as it’s also hard to find a good advertising agency here. In Dubai and Lebanon for example Ad agencies are closer to international standards which is sadly far from being the case here in Kuwait. As for being the boss of myself, I would surely love to have my own design studio one day but I still need quite a bit more experience before being able to do so.
