My First Rescue

Yesterday while I was on the phone with Mark and I was leaving work, I saw a little dog puppy rolling over in the grass in a corner of our huge parking lot. I approached it and it started playing with me and didn’t run away. It was a really cute 3 to 4 months old black and white male pup, probably a mutt, an adorable one.

My first thought was that I needed to get that poor puppy out of this overcrowded parking. I was actually surprised it wasn’t run over by a car already. So I first decided to call up PAWS but no one picked up. I then tried calling Animal Friends and to my relief a nice lady answered the phone. I explained to her my situation and she asked me if I could drop off the pup at the Rai veterinary hospital next to the Friday market since they didn’t have a rescue team in the area. I was like sure but since I didn’t know how to get there I called up a friend who was also leaving work and he came and met up with me.

Fifteen minutes later and we were on our way to Al Rai. It didn’t take us long to get to the hospital, which wasn’t much of a pretty sight. It looked really dodgy and I would certainly never take Geo there. But, the puppy was just going to spend the night there and was going to be picked up by the shelter the following day. Finally we ended up dropping the poor little thing there, waited a bit for it to be examined by the vet and then left the place quite relieved. It ticks me off how ignorant people dump their pets on the streets when they get bored of them.

I’ve just started walking the dogs at PAWS, haven’t got involved much in the organisation. I’ll find out what’s going on regarding answering phone calls and emails.
