Kuwaitis are so nonchalant about animal care. They're like toys... not living things. You buy them, get bored, have the khadama/9ebee/driver take care of it at the chalet, then one day they magically "run away." Uhuh. I think the obvious scenario is your underpaid help isn't dealing with your pet's shit, too... literally.

I just got my fantastic little girl in April, and she's already an integral part of the family. I couldn't imagine life without her. And it helps that she's the cutest dog I've EVER seen. She's also adopted from the SPCA (it's like PAWs... an animal shelter).

I saw a limping dog in industrial Shuwaikh or Rai a couple of days ago. I'm not quite sure where exactly.. He was brown and kind of big. I felt sorry for him but I couldn't really do anything. Is that the dog you were referring to?

Will you do a follow-up, Nat? Stinni rescued a dog she found tied and starving - in front of a SCHOOL? The rope had grown into the dog's neck. She took the dog to the vet, and then to the shelter, and the dog is evidently recovering. Let's hope your little friend has a similar positive outcome.

Volunteer organizations do the best they can to do what little they can to make the world a better place. They don't need criticism - they need support, encouragement, and serious financial assistance.

I had just called jack bauer (www.fox.com/24/) and he promised to help us once he escape from his prison in China (season5). I think he can arrange for air strike to nuke us or sth.

Otherwise, please accept my sympathy and my appreciation for everyone showing her/his social awareness in KUWAIT

Cymraeg its interesting that you've mentioned that. I was talking to Nataly about it today, donating a banner spot on my blog to AFL but I still haven't discussed it with John yet.

It sounds like we should be volunteering to these organisations with our time and money, by the sound of it they are busy people who need help from us, other busy people.

Sounds like we feel it is only our duty to pick up a phone then wash our hands, leaving a charity staffed by volunteers to then do the hard part - take immediate action when we neither support these groups with our time or our money. We are probably more tolerant of profit-making companies like Alghanim or NBK when we sit on hold on the phone, and it seems we are less critical of them too.

I wonder how many of you guys think that Oxfam is crap for example, because they don't feed some of the poor kids that Unicef feed?

To bring back some balance instead of just griping, could we see some links to AFL or PAWS like their websites? Perhaps some of this advertising space on 248am that just says "Taken" could be used as this site's owner's contribution, rather than just being a forum for forgetting all the animals that these guys DO rescue when 1 isn't miraculously picked up by these invisible angels we expect to come to our help?

Just a thought.

Animal friends is a non-profit org.
Unfortunetly animal rescue orgs in Kuwait cannot take critism nor can they accept the fact that sometimes they just cannot help, due to whatever reasons they splurt out.
Animal rescue is about taking in strays and caring for them, no matter what their condition, clearly we have definitions and categories here which do not consitute an 'official' animal rescue organization ('constraints' as they put it!)
Both Paws and AF have 'clicks' unfortunate but true - a thing that is so magnified in Kuwait that even Expats adopt it.
Improvements are needed and community penetration through education and awareness should be emphasized upon.
Yes I am critisizing because I am entitled to my opinion and do not really care about facts.
Do your homework before hand and estimate magnitude are the stratgies these org's should have adopted before starting up.

I would like to thank everyone for their interest in this situation.

At this point, I have no idea who sent or wrote the email we received this morning.

However, the purpose of my post was not to express anger toward anyone. I merely wished to describe the reality of the situation for the benefit of everyone. No one at animal friends is harboring any grief towards anyone here. We are too busy!

More importantly, I want to get out and help this animal.

Thank-you for advocating on our behalf.

Regards,
John Peaveler

Mh,...., now, what happened to the dog? Could someone help him? :S

I for one wish one could find some feedback on what happens to the animals one finds and either AFL or PAWS takes care of afterwards.
Like some quick snaps and a few words on their web pages.

Hi John, firstly I want to thank you for posting your long comment but I would like to make something clear.

We (as in me and Nat) have nothing against AFL. In fact we strongly believe in AFL and we've even had contact with your wife and we know how much of an animal lover she is. We've had a lot more positive experience with AFL then we have had with PAWs and if you read some of the comments above you will notice that most of the criticism by the readers has been towards PAWs not AFL.

Now all that Nat did was post about her experience with this dog. She spoke to someone at AFL over the phone, explained to them the situation and what is posted here is just her experience. She didn't condemn you and if you reread what she wrote you would see her post wasn't an attack to AFL.

Nat's post was about an injured dog which she is feeling very sorry for and helpless about the situation and she was asking people for advice on what she could do to rescue it.

So I would just like to make it clear one more time that we fully support AFL.

John Peaveler,

Please note that I am FORWARDING a message that was posted on 248am.com that was not written by me.
I found it necessary to alert you to the post that was made.

I suggest you visit 248am.com and reply directly to this post and not attack the messanger!!!

I am an active animal rescuer who actually donates money to both your organization and PAWs through charity events - the next one I am attending is the May 10th breakfast!
