Villamoda Fever

villamoda

It seems that Villamoda started their sales today, I don’t know the exact details yet but I heard they have up to 80% 50% discount. My office is located right next to Villamoda in the free trade zone and the traffic here is just insane now. People started coming in from around 10 in the morning and they just kept on coming. There’s a sandy patch of land behind my office where trucks usually U-Turn, its gotten so packed that people have started parking there. They have also started parking on both sides of the narrow road leading to Villamoda and also on sidewalks and on the grass and it just keeps getting more hektic by the minute. I will be going during my lunchbreak to check it out. Hopefully the place wouldn’t have been ravaged by then.

Here are some more pictures:

Update: I got back from Villamoda a while ago after spending like a whole hour there. People were waiting in line to get into some of the shops, it sort of reminded me of how people used to wait in line for bread during the Lebanese civil war. People were literally trying to grab anything they could get their hands on specially in the Gucci and Prada shops. It was a total rampage, hilarious in my opinion. I personnaly didn’t find anything, most of the stuff they had wasn’t my style and most of the prices were still expensive even after the 50% discount. Even if I did end up finding anything, there was a huge fucking line at the cashier so it would have taken me at least 30 min to get through.

Villa Moda is a complete waste of space. Its set in a shitty location. The building itself needs a thorough washing. The lights on the flag poles dont all work. The staff wear their own uniforms. The staff all look miserable. The people who do their buying are choosing the most random shit that NOBODY wears. They are always overpriced except for sale time.

The building blocks of a great business? i think not

If they’re at Villa Moda in the morning, it’s obvious that they don’t need to work.

  8. 8. tim | May 29th, 2006 at 1:11 pm

if they need to go to an 80% sale… perhaps they should just work a bit harder ;-)

    Krazeness!

Why can’t people realize that even though Villa Moda has discounts they are still making a profit! Their so-called sales are only a scam to trick people to buy items that have been collection dust after putting highway robery prices on the goods the first time they had them on the shelf! :oP

I’m very proud to announce that I am currently in the office and have been here since 7 am. I’m also very proud that when got the phone call yesterday morning about the sale, I explained that I have other plans and can’t make it.

As for the people that go in the mornings, during the last sale, a friend of my mine, who works in a bank, told her manager that she has an emergency and need an hour off. I assume many other people do that too.

I, personally think going to Villa Moda sale is a waste of time and energy unless you the first 2 hours. (Yesterday 3-5)! People go crazy and they buy ugly stuff that is leftover from the previous season. Sometimes, they manage to slip few items from the year before and surprisingly people are stupid enough to buy them.

Hmm, if it was Mark he would write one, so why don’t you write one?

  13. 13. Anon | May 29th, 2006 at 2:10 pm

they aint making any money, believe me. They did had a private capital raising initiative a while back and nobody wanted to buy the shares…

    its a dummy.

“Sometimes, they manage to slip few items from the year before and surprisingly people are stupid enough to buy them.”

And some people are stupid enough to buy things that are ‘in’ rather than things that look good on them.

Thamer they sell electronics and furniture. They are kinda like Alghanim in Rai.

come on… don’t start knocking poor fashion sense in Kuwait, or I’d have nothing to laugh at while enjoying my coffee at Marina Crescent in the evening…

  18. 18. zaydoun | May 29th, 2006 at 2:29 pm

You can either laugh at the poor fashion sense or at the poor quality of coffee at Marina Crescent

It’s one big comedy gig I tell ya!

I get my espresso fix from Cup&Cino; its upstairs next to Baella(sp). Its quite good if they get the beans right that day.

  21. 21. OohLaLaa | May 29th, 2006 at 4:22 pm

I was there this morning at around 10:15 and it was already full of people.
The merchandise is actually 50% off on all clothing from the SS06 collection.
To survive the villa moda sale, you basically have to know the items that u want presale so that u just pick them up and pay and get out of there! there’s no time to try things on … & there’s only two changing rooms and it’ll take forever till your turn comes.
I scored a beautiful Missoni evening dress at half price, it’s a shame i didn’t manage to see the bottega store…… the place was so full you simply feel suffocated!

  22. 22. anon | May 29th, 2006 at 5:34 pm

Hey K,Cup&Cino have been bought out!Time to find an alternative. :-)

  26. 26. SWOS | June 2nd, 2006 at 10:47 am

Hi Everyone, i just wanted to make some points clear, first of all i work in Villa Moda and 99% of the items that were included in the SALE are from this season (SS 06 which is spring summer 2006) people are so dumb and they just make up crap saying that they are from last year and stuff like that. The items that were not included in the sale are either carryovers(will be released next year) or did very well before the sale and only a few pieces are left. Next, if you came earlier you would of found a lot of cool stuff (bags,wallets,clothets..etc) of course your not going to get anything after a few hours of the sale. And about the clothes of the staff (everyone had their own clothes on) it was a good thing , in the first 3 days of the sale i was working 13 hours daily from 9 am - 11 pm so come on guys don’t expect us to wear suits! some of the staff including me , didn’t even have lunch or dinner in the first day! and about the prices if you cant afford it please just STFU and go to other places like marina mall or something.

and to Anon they are making money unless you own the place and can post us the sales figures online. And a new building will be built next year instead of this location.

“and about the prices if you cant afford it please just STFU and go to other places like marina mall or something” - SWOS, you’re not being a very good salesperson there - that just sounds defensive, snobbish, and off-putting.

  31. 32. anon | June 3rd, 2006 at 8:10 pm

K,I’m pretty sure. They are operating for now,but their location in Marina Crescent is being bought for Krispy kreme.

  32. 33. Fashion Guruess | June 5th, 2006 at 5:00 pm

Well, I have to say TWO things. Which may not even be relevant to the original topic of this conversation… but ONE: the peeps that totally slate Villa Moda - a) dont have the money and are therefore jealous b) havent got a F**king clue about fashion and totally couldnt understand/comprehend the working of it (Seasons etc) c) A probably buy from nothing but you typical commercial copy brands.
TWO: Please before you try to start a intellgent conversation make sure your critisim is constructive rather than just slating it cause you cant handle the fact that you were either fired or turned down for a job.

Now - before i go: Nope im not and employee, but do respect what they are trying to do and have established. And i am a keen fashion follower plus work within the retail business. Which why it buggs the crap out of me when peeps just cant do anything other than slate the peeps that try to make a difference.

People who have passion for fashion will appreciate and admire villamoda product and staff, they are different. Good luck to all
