Dubai here I come!

Tomorrow I will be going to Dubai for a regional 2 day training organized by my agency. It will be my first time in Dubai so I’m very excited to finally see what it’s like since I’ve heard a lot of both good and bad things about it. I will be going there with a fellow art director and my creative director who’s very fun to be with so it should be very interesting. Our plan is to attend the training during the day, go shopping in the afternoons and finally go pubbing or clubbing in the evenings. I could use a few days away from the calmness and serenity of Kuwait and I’m hoping Dubai will be the complete opposite! We will be staying in Jumaira, does anyone have any recommendations? I will post about my trip when I get back on Wednesday. Ciao for now!

  3. Nat says:

No way, I wouldn’t enjoy skiing in some fakeass mall. Thanks for the suggestion though:)

  4. Whatever says:

    The Noodle House

(available in Souq Madinat Jumeirah, Emirates Towers & City Center)

  5. I forgot you’d snow in lebanon… My bad…

  6. CyberRowdy says:

    Dont Try PizzaHut – Dubai!

  7. Nat says:

LOl, well i wouldn’t even have pizza hut kuwait, yet alone Dubai.*Yuck*
Guys does anyone have other suggestions none food related?
    Noodles sounds good though..

  8. The only reason I go to dubai is to, club, drink.. & well.. shopping

  9. Pearls says:

From what I heard Jumeirah is an excellent hotel or resort so I’m sure you’ll enjoy your stay there, and I’m positive you’d love the swimming pools.

  10. Pearls says:

    Have a safe trip.

  11. fadibou says:

Go for Barrista in DIMC, great music and sea views
ShoSho for good sushi and outdoors music
Isish village for live music and outdoor drinking and eating

Shopping is at emirates mall for the least traffic and they have the biggest virgin in the middle east (supposedly)
if you fancy a neater but smaller mall try Mercato on Jumeira beach road.
Burjuman mall remains the favourite shopping experience but traffic is higher than average
City center is the classic shoping experience with the highest traffic rates but you can watch an uncensored movie for a change, the cinema is great there.
Noodl house surely has the best noodles ever.
Willing to pay more? book dinner at Burj Al Arab in the Muntaha restuarent and enjoy the best views of dubai ever and of the greatest meals also. Expect 100 to 150 $ per person for a 3 course meal including wine. But take a camera and witness a modern marvel of architecture.

  12. Nat says:

Wow thats alot of info Fadibou. Thanx!:)
And thanks pearl, someone will get bored while im away though:)

  13. Pearls says:

I agree with Fadi, you should really go to Burj Al-Arab especially if you like seafood because they have this great seafood restaurant where you’d have to get into a sub underwater. Cool!

  14. KtheKuwaiti says:

Good like finding free wireless internet .. god knows i suffered.

  15. loo7a says:

I don’t know about you guys , but the best thing in traveling is to leave your cell phone and internet behind you and just relax

  17. Nat says:

I don’t think I will have time to get online, i don’t even think i will be taking my laptop with me..

  18. Are you staying in the Jumeirah Beach Hotel? If so, it’s one of the nicest hotels in Dubai in my opinion.

You must check out Madinat Jumeirah, which has a lot of nice restaurants and places where you can have a nice drink (I hear the Meat Company is really nice, although I’ve never been there myself yet),JamBase is also a nice, chilled out place with a live jazz band, and of course Noodle House (the one in Emirates Towers is supposedly better than the one in Madinat Jumeirah).

You can also go next door to Mina A’Salam (you can walk there from Madinat Jumeirah), and go to Bahri Bar for a nice drink (make sure you sit outside).

Grovesnor House (next to Media City) has Bar 44 (cigar/martini lounge), and Buddha Bar. and the Meridien Mina Siyahi (also next to Media City) has Bussola.

Mall of the Emirates is nice because of the ski dome (it’s still impressive, no matter what people say about indoor skiing). Ibn Battuta mall is also a nice place to see, although if you’re sick and tired of malls, then you can just skip it.

Wafi City is also a must-see (restaurants, shopping, clubs and bars).

Dubai Marine (which was mentioned before by another blogger), is also really cool, with Sho Cho’s (Sunday night is 80′s night), Boudoir, and a bunch of other restaurants and clubs.

I am sure you won’t get bored….there’s always something to do here. Enjoy! But just make sure you don’t get stuck in traffic :)

  19. Nat says:

No I’ll be staying at Towers Rotana Hotel, isn’t that in Jumeira or something?
Anyway thanks alot Dubai Sunshine, i will need to print out all this info cuz there’s no way i would remember all the names you just gave me:)

  20. Hmm, I had to look it up cause I’d never seen the place before. Here’s the link: http://www.rotana.com/aspx/Location.aspx?HotelId=14

It’s on Sheikh Zayed Road (I love how they call it Boulevard on the map…), not Jumeirah.

Anyway, it’s a pretty central location, which is good for you. Basically, you’re in the middle of everything. Plus, on that side of the road, you have a bunch of places you can go to (Zaatar W Zeit, Wagamama, Coco’s, etc.).

  21. Nat says:

yeah i saw it, looks ok to me. Important thing is that I’m in the middle of everything that way I can walk instead of having to take cabs the whole time:)

  22. You’ll still need to take cabs. It’s hard to walk anywhere in Dubai.

  23. Dubai is just not a walking city. The distances are too big, and the infrastructure of the city is not made for walking…You’ll be on Sheikh Zayed road, but if you want to get to the other side of the road, you’ll need to take a cab…You simply cannot cross by walking.

  24. Nat says:

Hmmm doesn’t sound very convenient..what to do, I guess i’ll be taking alot of cabs then..

  25. fadibou says:

Avoid Boudoir NAT, its a place with free drinks for ladies so that they can be picked up after 12:00
free champagne till you get drunk and useless lousy men waiting to pickup.

  26. Nat says:

Lol sounds scary, I’m sure mark wouldnt like that. Thanx for the tip Fadibou:) On the other hand how do you know so much about boudoir…mmmmmm??? :)

  27. Jay says:

I was just about to post some late nite emergency phone numbers when I realised that it is not Mark but Nat’s thread.

So Nat. Only interesting spot at Rotana Towers which is “off” Sheikh Zayed road is the Lebanese niteclub with the Brazilian bellydancer which I assume is not your cup of tea. You should go instead to Emirates Tower where all the media congregates either at The Agency winebar or Vu top panoramic bar. Any restaurant is good and I suggest the Japanese one Tkyo@thetowers.
The niteclub for well behaved married girls would be Kazbar at the Royal Mirage.
You should visit Madinat Jumeirah which really summarize Dubai as they have a multitude of shops restaurants and niteclubs.
Failing all that, just take a taxi to the Gold Souk and I am sure Mark will be more than happy to pay the bills.
As for shopping, all is the same and Burjuman or Wafi or whatever are tops.

Have fun and brace yourself cause Dubai is Beirut on steroids!

  28. moryarti says:

    Dude – email me

  29. moryarti says:

oh my.. i thought it was Mark posting, sorry Nat :)

Never the less, please feel free to let me know if there is anyway we can be of use to you .. :o)

  30. holla says:

yall need different colour text or something to differentiate who’s posting. i thought it was markus too.

  31. Nat says:

whats up with you guys thinking it was mark posting! Anyway thanks jay for the list, that’s alot of names to remember..:)
    Oh and thanks Moryarti.

  32. Mark says:

yeah i need to find a solution to this. At least Nat should start off saying that its her posting not me since she barely posts.

  33. 3abboud of rak says:

Well it does say ‘Posted by whomever’ right after the title, so why find a solution. .

It’s true she don’t post much, but her posts can attract lots of traffic..

  34. Moe says:

Scuze me but Dubai is no where close to being like Beirut , let alone Beirut on steroids, prolly bad expired steroids. Sure Dubai is fun and nice and all but it is simply PLASTIC so to make a fair comparison, Dubai is Beirut minus the nice people, minus the heritage minus the unique charm etc.. etc..
Hope you have fun Nat and hope you come back safe and all

  35. 3aboud of rak says:

Yeh, and Dubai is Beirut minus the bombed out buildings, minus Da7ieh, minus all the political garbage with its associated politically garbage people. And Dubai has A LOT of not so charming lebanese people, I might add.

  36. Windwalker says:

LOL MOE, you are just one heck of a patriotic lebanese. Reminds me of the leboz that go clubbing every week living underneath my apat.

if you’re so patriotic, go watch ‘Fat Pizza’.
funniest lebo production i’ve ever seen to this date.

  37. habiba says:

i am coming from holland to dubai in few days, anyone can tell me how to find a room at a decent rent. I am coming to find work.
    any suggestion is welcome!
    Thankx
