Skincare
Since I moved to Kuwait and started work, I noticed that my face stopped being as radiant and my skin as plump from when I first moved here. These fatigue signs were obviously due to the change of weather condition, water composition but mainly lack of sleep and work related stress. Therefore lately I started reflecting on which Skincare products brand would suit my face and my skin better. I’m quite confused on what to go with since there’s so many great brands available in the market. Some people recommended Dior, others Clinique, Lancome or La Mer. At this point I would love some additional input from any of you who are current users of a brand you are satisfied with.

Try Clinique’s products. A lot of brands are available but in terms of expense, I find that the pricier ones are not necessarily better (Clinique being cheaper than most other high-end brands). I personally use Nivea sensitive body lotion on my face, which works great. It depends on the type of skin you have, but since you seem to not have used any before, try any light creams.

Oil of Olay. I’ve just started using their day cream.

this skincare issue is a never ending dilemma. you’re going to get a variety of responses, but the thing is that each person’s skin will vary to what care it requires. i agree with FD about the more expensive are not necessarily better. i tend to mix n match my skincare, and concluded that for moisturizing Vichy is great; for everything else i am still open for testing :) side note: this blogger had something to mention about this cream, check her out - hausfrau.blogsome.com

better still you can choose some Neutrogena products online (http://www.neutrogena.com) or whatever brand you’d like and have Sultan Centre order them for you. They’ll arrive within a week.

My skin type is rather normal i would say. Clinique is fairly priced compared to other brands and I do agree with you guys about pricing vs quality. Sunshine this Egyptian magic cream sound a bit dodgy to me i must say, lol. Maybe it has some weird deforming after-effects:)
I have a guy friend that recently started using the moisturizing cream as well as the eye cream from “creme de la mer”. The first one costs 80 kd for like 2 oz and the latter 40 kd which I think is ridiculously expensive. However he claims that it’s been doing some very good visible changes to his skin.

Pearl currently and temporarily I’ve been using the Neutrogena moisturizing cream and I’m not satisfied with it:/

Sunshine, I can use this stuff on an old scar I have on one of my arm as well on those ugly stretch marks! But I don’t trust such brands! It might contain harmful substances.

Dear Nat
Try Clinique, I’ve been using thier products for years, they are great, and scent free, especially if your skin is sensetive.
You could ask for a test sample of thier products before you buy.
Try the Clinique’s 3 step daily care, it cosist of a cleansing bar, a clarifying lotion, and a lotion, Simply, It’s the BEST

Lamia how about their anti-aging cream and eye cream, are they any good? You see due to the lack of sleep I sometimes have a semi-dark area under my eyes.

Sisly is what I, my mother and sister use. It’s a bit high priced compared to other products but it does sure worth it.
Take some samples from them to try, to help you in making a decision.

Hey Judy do they have helena robenshtine available here? I do agree that my skin changes as well when I leave Kuwait.. But I still put some of the blame on work and stress since when i leave Kuwait I’m also on vacation and no longer worked out and stressed out:)
16. Carlsb3rg | May 21st, 2006 at 3:05 pm

I swear by dermalogica. Only available from strands salon in Al-Fanar/Gulf Road Salmiya, but their stock control is poor. You can buy online from a company called http://www.beautyflash.co.uk They sell for WAY cheaper than you can buy anywhere; lots of other brands too. Use your Aramex Shop & Ship if you still have it…
20. ligne21 | May 21st, 2006 at 4:20 pm
Nat, it depends on you which product you find best suits your skin.
Make sure you’re skin is very well hydrated. Drink loads and loads of water, say 2 glasses every 2 hours.
I use de la mers moisturiser but it’s not AMAZING, i’m happy with it..but i’m dreading the time when the jar will empty and i will have to go buy a new one.
I also use la praire radiance eye cream which i find works perfectly with me. I’ve been using both of them for the past year and a half.
Oh and Shu Uemuras products are gorgeous!! honestly, try their purifying face wash thing it’s a makeup remover and cleanser I can swear on hmmmm their moisturiser is pretty good as well (i sometimes alternate their moisturiser with de la mers)
all shu uemuras products are to die for, i’d love to own their shop or more like the whole of harvy nichols ;p hehe

I wouldn’t try to make a decision based on the brand but rather based on what kind of product I want and what time of year is it. Some brands have really good cleansers but others are better than them at eye cream. So you should be specific about what you’re looking for and then go from there. Regarding the time of year, during the summer you need less moisturizing than the winter time. At any rate, be specific about what you and don’t think you have to do all your shopping in one brand. BUT speaking from my experience, do not pile up products on your face. The less care the better.

i suggest u go to a professional who would recommend the best product for your skin and you also have to follow up with that professional every couple of months. a while back i started using lancaster. they are really affordable and did miracles for my face. 18 months later, the lancaster products i was using weren’t suitable for my face anymore since i had found out what was causing my facial issues and solved it and cured my skin with the lancaster products. at the moment my skin needs other products since my skin issues now are related to stress related issues so i changed to different lancaster products.

dude, are you getting your essential fatty acids in your diet? Consider supplementing with vitamin E or fish oil, Mark. I would also highly recommend a visit to a dermatologist just to be sure nothing is wrong. Listing brands and all is an option, but checking on your skin’s health by an expert should top the list…then you can go brand shopping!

Try Sisley- aya nd night cream, epensive but like wearing silk on your face, available from the perfume departments of most jamiyas (Co-Ops).

Re the Egyptian Magic Cream - the ingredients are all-natural (i.e. honey, olive oil) so they wouldn’t cause any freaky side effects. On the contrary, the ingredients used in this cream help heal skin. I bought it for psoriasis and eczema but it has a ton of other uses as well.
My skin looked best when I drank lots of water and gave up carbonated beverages. Fish oil helps. So does vitamin E. My skin naturally looks better in humid climates.
29. lilo | May 22nd, 2006 at 9:07 am
Try Shiseido… My best experience after I tried many other high end brands.
30. Mark | May 22nd, 2006 at 9:26 am
TweeZ I hate skin creams, they make me feel icky, I like my skin to be very dry.
31. Nat | May 22nd, 2006 at 9:36 am
Wow. Thanks alot guys for all your recommendations. I do realise that the best option would be to first check with a proffessional that would tell me exactly what my skins’ needs are. But the problem is that I do not know any proffessionals or qualified dermatologists here plus can they really be trusted? They might just end up recommending the brand that sponsors them or something. The first thing I’ll probably do is go to Vavavooom and browse around requesting some samples. I will also be checking some of the brands a few of you suggested.
32. rampurple | May 22nd, 2006 at 1:48 pm
there is a really good dermatologist in salmiya, near where the haunted house used to be. i find fayassel to be really good. their girls would recommend from any of the products they have… true… but they basically have all the products. lancaster, lancome, clinique, la prairies, helene rubenstein, and a lot more.
33. soso | May 23rd, 2006 at 12:57 am
the most important element in your skincare program is your night cream, cause skin renews itself while you’re sleeping .
all of the overpriced night creams has (Retinol ) which is a form of vitamin-A that can be absorbed through skin, of course they have to add caviar or cucumber or pearls powder or bla bla blah to keep it pricey
they sell retinol in any farmacy for 24 S.R per tube here in K.S.A (it’s knowen by riten-A)
but you have to use a good kind of sunblock ( my doctor recomended Louis Widdmer) , and make sure to mix it with a moisturiser cause it’s gonna be a little itchy at the first couple of weeks
in the beggining you’ll notice that you’re skin is getting worse , don’t worry cause it’s getting all of the dead cells from the depth to surface
my docter says that all women must use it on a daily basis
he even says it okay to apply it around the eyes but I’ve never done it
also in addition to riten-A and Loius widdmer sunblock I use clerance’s moisturiser
Lancome’s eye make up removal, milk and tonic
I also use Este Lauder’s make up remover which comes in a form of face wash cause it’s easier to use
I’ve never used any eye cream but the world’s No.1 seller for like 10 years in clinic’s Turn around eye cream
I guess I have the longest reply
34. TweeZ | May 23rd, 2006 at 1:50 am
beauty starts from within, watch your diet. You need some essential fatty acids to help your skin shine and be naturaly radiant. Plus, they are good for your heart :>
35. Nat | May 23rd, 2006 at 8:39 am
Thanks for your reply Soso. It’s long but quite helpfull. I think I will end up seeing a beauty specialist to ask her about the stuff you guys suggested and to see which product better suits my skin.
Tweez It’s a bit hard to watch what I eat here since most of the time I’m just forced to eat whatever is available in restaurants. (I work and rarely cook, don’t really know how to..)
36. Mark | May 23rd, 2006 at 9:44 am
rarely cook? more like never cook lol
37. Nat | May 23rd, 2006 at 10:09 am
hmmm i did cook 3 times so far!
38. TweeZ | May 23rd, 2006 at 11:52 am
so? start making healthy choices when you eat out.I highly encourage you to supplement with a multi-vitamin then since its obvious that your not getting your rda of certain nutrients and above all…essential fatty acids! Quick question, when was the last time you had some REAL honey?
39. Nat | May 23rd, 2006 at 11:59 am
Don’t get me wrong, I do eat healthy most of the time, whenever I can anyway. But home cooked food is always better and it’s not a luxury i currently enjoy. I also had a spoonful of honey yesterday:)
Do you have any tips on what I should essentially include in my diet?
40. TweeZ | May 23rd, 2006 at 6:59 pm
eat plenty of greens!!! Like Rocca=jarjeer, barbeer and romain lettuce. Nuts= almonds and walnuts…they contain some essential fatty acids. Salmon and avocado once in a while, salmon is rich with omega-3 which is an essential fatty acids and is good for your bones. Avocado, aka beauty food, packs omega-9! Invest in some Yemeni honey, not SueBee! Have that Yemeni Honey once in a while…its also an awesome immunity booster, but dont eat more than a tablespoon cuz its also dense in calories…but the health benefits are worth it!
Go easy on the sodium and salts. Drink plenty of water, watch out for the sodium content of some labels. Drink green tea, excellent antioxidant and cleanser.
WEAR SUNSCREEN!!!
