Never Again

Kuwait National Day Celebrations

This is the last time I am going to spend National Day in Kuwait. Its absolutely the worst time of the year to be in Kuwait. Three years ago when little kids were foaming cars it was cute but last year older teenagers and adults started doing it and this year it was even worse.

I stayed indoors most of the vacation but tonight I had to go into Kuwait City to meet up with a friend and it was disgusting. You can’t drive with the windows open cuz you never know which idiot is going to spray you and you can’t get on the Gulf Road because the cops block everything. Its just messed up.

By the way at one traffic light I was stuck in the cop made us all run a red light to clear up the traffic. Problem is the camera at the intersection took pictures of all the cars and buses that ran the red light, what happens in a situation like this? I am hoping the cop telling us to cross the red light shows up in the picture or else I am pretty fucked.

  7. 7. Mark | February 27th, 2008 at 12:43 am

Well I leave in Salmiya near Baghdad street and the cops had diverted ALL the gulf road traffic into Baghdad street for some reason so you can just imagine the amount of traffic that got built up.

I think it’s pretty cool. I managed to beat the shit out of 3 Agaads this year - bettering last years record.

Just get out of your car - take your belt off - and whip the piss out of them. It’s pretty fun. The cops will probably give you a hand.

It could be fun, but when you have men harassing other people (women) on the streets and calling them names! I don’t think that’s really fun! Gives Kuwait a bad name!

  32. 32. A.f | February 27th, 2008 at 3:16 pm

i DON’T get why putting piss in the water gun is considered FUN, so instead of remebering the people we love, who lost their lives defending kuwait. we celebrate by hurting other people. PLUS if anyone didn’t notice there was a MASSERA on the 23 and 24. SO again, WHY are those people celebrating? what is there on the 23, 24, coz from what i remeber nothing happened in those days. That’s just prooof that people DON’T know what thier celebrating for. AND WHO ever says its FUN, seriously you have a problem. Please define fun? coz when fun is using hair removal creams in a water gun, to use it on people. PLEASE relate how USING hair removal cream and 3EED IL wa6ny and ta7reer relate to each other. THANKS GOD now we can go back to our lives in peace, i missed work so much. YES IT IS THE MOST DEGARDING TIMES OF THE YEAR, COZ it’s when the monkeys escape from the ZOO :P

it’s not fun when people get KILLED, and yes my friend lost 2 of his family members while crossing the street, is that FUN ? people never learn here.. at least most of them will never change. Will we ever be civilized ? polite? respectful ? follow traffic signs/rules? i think not.. it is sad but it’s the truth.

    Yesterday’s news paper :

    Kuwait ’snow blizzards’ end..
one dead, six blinded as celebrations wind down.

TO : 16. Bo-Bader “well, its only twice a year and it is only foam not bullets. At least its not like parades in Lebanon where people get killed and properties get damaged.”

In lebanon people get killed with machine guns!
Thanks God you guys are armed by foam cans only LOL

  44. 44. aprilsunshine | February 29th, 2008 at 11:07 pm

first of all this is not your country and you are in no position to criticize the activities celebrated locally on national and liberation day. In addition, you have been here for a number of years now so you should know better than to take Gulf Road for commuting….Finally, and a word of advise, when in Rome do what Romans do. The same applied here too!!!!

  45. 45. UncleBenz | February 29th, 2008 at 11:44 pm

    Yeah “Kefi Kwaiti” Style !

  46. 46. rehan | March 1st, 2008 at 6:52 am

If Kuwait law and order system was good, there would be tons of lawsuits that would be filed by people hurt from this insane celebration. I don’t know the reason behind all this madness on the Independence day. Why can’t we celebrate it peacefully? I feel sorry for those people who got blinded or killed because of this irresponsible behavior and people responsible should pay the price by compensating the victim’s family or spending time in prison.

correct me if i’m wrong, isn’ the US ARMY WITH THE UN NATION FORCES ARE TE ONE WHO LIBERATED KUWAIT FROM IRAQ TIRANNY AND SLAVERY.why somebody here would disrespect these forces by saying “Ralph Stick the US Army in your ASS” i’m not an american, but for any reason, still THE US & UN FORCES HELPED KUWAIT TO BE LIBERATED!!!!

    *Kickinass*
for some reason people tend to have a very very short memory.
Right about now if not for the allied forces we would be under Saddam we would not have had blogs decent internet or just internet for that matter all of these malls, universities, hospitals, banks, newspapers our vocabulary would consist of “belly, yabe, bawi3….ect .
As for the Palestinians for some reason we have amnesia for what Mr.Lips and his countrymen (I’m not saying all Palestinians are bad) did to us back in the 90s and this is after Kuwait gave him a home and paid him millions not to mention his wife living it up in Europe while the West Bank and Gaza are suffering .
I realized now people only hear what they what to hear.

It is sad. Last year was my last year to go out on the Gulf Road to celebrate. I stayed COMPLETELY away this year - although I live 2 blocks off the Gulf Road.

People have forgotten what the National/Liberation days are FOR. 1) Independence as a country; out from under British protectorate, and 2) Liberation of Kuwait from Iraq by ALLIED forces. By allied - I am referring to the group of countries who helped liberate Kuwait. It was not the sole responsibility of one nation (although some did a whole lot more than others). As many of the allies were NOT “brother” Arabs, one might wonder why resentment might not be passed towards them, and away from nations who sacrificed so much to help.

I don’t know if anyone noticed or not, but this year, I didn’t see many American, Saudi, or British flags out there. That, again, is sad.

Why aren’t parents (or teachers) teaching Kuwait’s history? Even current history seems to be eluding most people here.

What the holidays are NOT about are spraying people with urine or hair-removal foam.

  51. 51. abeer a | March 6th, 2008 at 1:05 pm

    Agree with Desert Girl completely!
And btw I wasn’t in Kuwait at the time, but I’d like to know how 6 people became blind… It’s a horrible thing.. But somehow entertaining… No no, I’m a bad person its not funny.
